Dalguise Reminders

I can’t believe it is almost time for Dalguise already!

Please find below some reminders and information that were shared at the Parent Information Evening. You can also find this information at: https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/puscpsnews/dalguise-information-evening/

  • If your child requires medication they must complete a permission to administer medication form prior to leaving on the Wednesday morning. This includes travel sickness pill, Calpol, etc.
  • Medication for camp should be handed into Miss Burton at the office at 8am on the morning of camp.
  • Code of Conduct: It is very important that families read through this agreement and sign it with their child
  • On Wednesday 5th February children are required to be at school for 8:10am, the bus will leave at 8:20am. Children should be dropped off at the front office, and go into the gym hall to be registered and go to the toilet. Parents and family can wait outside to wave goodbye to their children as they go onto the bus – if they wish.
  • Children should wear comfortable clothes ready for outdoor activities, school uniform is not required.
  • Children are not required to order or bring a lunch.
  • We will send a group call to let you know the children have arrived safely.
  • £6 pocket money will be provided, £2 each day. A purse or a wallet is useful for the children to keep their change in. Children should bring not bring any extra money to camp, this keeps it fair for all the children.
  • Staff attending the residential are Mrs Andison, Mrs Bonner and Miss Burton.
  • Pupils are not permitted to take cameras, electronic devices or valuables with them. They can take a disposable camera if the wish. The staff will take photos with school cameras. Wi-Fi permitting we will try and post on the school blog while we are away. We may also post photos on Twitter as it is it easier and quicker to upload to this platform – you do not need to have a Twitter log on, if you go to Twitter and search @PUSCPS you will find us.
  • Primary 7 should bring their leavers hoodie to camp  – we are hoping they will have arrived by then.
  • When packing, remember the child will have to carry their own bag to the accommodation. It is also recommended to go over what clothes you have packed for them so they know what to wear to different activities. Please remember a sleeping bag.
  • Children will be collected as usual at the end of the school day on Friday at 12:25pm. If we are delayed we will group call you. If you are not collecting you child please let the office know in advance. Parents/ carers should collect medication handed in for the residential from the school office.

Some tips from Mrs Andison:

A tip for parents of P7 pupils going to camp next week.  I learned this tip from another parent and I think it is helpful for helping to organise your child’s suitcase.

If you put each day’s set of clothes into one labelled plastic carrier bag, one for Thursday, one for Friday and one labelled for the disco, it helps them to stay organised and to wear suitable clothes for the outdoor activities.  In the past we have had pupils wearing clothes meant for the disco during the day, leaving them old outdoor clothes for the disco. This can be really upsetting for some pupils.

Please make sure they have suitable gloves, plenty of spare socks and their towel.

I’m really looking forward to going. We will have a great time – lets hope for some dry weather.

From Mrs Andison

Term 2 Celebration Assembly

Two pupils from  Bathgate Academy recently took part in the Polar Academy experience. They joined us this morning to share their journey and achievements with us. A huge thank you to the boys who gave us a very inspiring presentation.

Introducing our Awesome Authors for Term 2 …

and congratulations to our STEM Superstars.

We recognised one of Primary 7 pupils who received a West Lothian Young People’s Award for her commitment to buddying and supporting younger children in our school.

Congratulations to Breich fro receiving the most house points for term 2!

Breich House Party

Breich received the most house points for term 2 and decided on a Pyjama Party as their house treat. Everyone dressed up in their pjs or onesies and the Primary 7s had organised lots of game like corners and sleeping lions. Thank you to our house and vice captain of Breich for organising such a fun party!

Primary 7 Scottish focus

In Primary 7 our first IDL topic this term was Scottish Musicians, past and present.

We have learned about the career, family and music of a variety of Scottish musicians that pupils listen to currently and some from the not too distant past.

Some of the musicians we learned about are Lewis Capaldi, Calvin Harris, Gerry Cinnamon, Runrig, The Incredible String Band, Gerry Rafferty and Annie Lennox.  We have researched, produced posters and written non-chronological reports on a chosen musician.

We also listened to the different genres of music and discussed how they affected our emotions, mood and if they created mental images in our minds.  We had some very good discussions as well as enjoying some music from artists we hadn’t heard before.

Scottish Assembly

Today we celebrated all things Scottish at our Annual Scottish Assembly.

Primary 1-4 submitted two finalists and Primary 5-7 submitted 3 finalists from their classes to recite a Scots or Burns poem.

A huge thank you to our judges Dr Hughes from the Robert Burns World Federation and Mr Jenkins, a local friend of our school who is in the Burns Federation. The winner from each class will be entered into the West Lothian Burns Competition.

We had some fantastic dancing Scottish.

The classes all also learned Scottish songs to perform at the assembly.
