Last week a Chef (Mr Mellor) made ice cream in our classroom and we got to taste it. It was amazing! He let us ask him questions on how to make food. He told us recipes.

Last week we made hedgehogs out of clay and then we made a simple flowchart to give instructions for how to make one. Next week we are going to paint our hedgehogs to add them to our woodland display table. This week in art we used wax resist techniques to create images of seaside creatures, shells and seaweed and according to P2 our display looks fab.
In maths we have been learning to count in 2’s, 5’s from any number using the strategy of nodding on the number and then counting on using the correct number of fingers. We will now try to count in 10’s. We have also been using the Ten Frame Towers game to make towers of number bonds to 10. The children liked this game because they could easily see the numbers that would fit together to make ten.
We have been finding out about what can be found on the Isle of Coll. We have also been learning about the difference between man made and natural features on an island.
Primary 4 attended a Seafood in Schools workshop, finding out about our Scottish fish and how they get to our plates. We also got to sample lots of different types of fish too!
Here are some of the things we had to say about our trip:
CJ: I liked trying the fish. Now I know I like it.
Angel: I learnt that there are 65 different types of fish in Scotland.
Samantha: I liked it when we saw the crab.
Ella: My favourite bit was making the smoked mackerel dip because it tastes AMAZING!
Donatella: I learnt that we have farms to grow mussels and oysters.
Hayden: I learnt that the boats that catch fish are called trawlers.
Sophie: I liked trying the fish and looking at the sea creatures.
More photos of the day to follow!
Last week we were very lucky because we were invited to Broxburn Academy for a science and technology day. As part of the science investigations we used microscopes to view plant cells, we made fizz pop rockets, worked with ooze, measured our heart beat and pulse rate and made a balloon hovercraft.
In CDT we had to design and create a skyscraper in our groups. We also got to meet other children who will be going to Broxburn Academy with us when we go into S1.
Last week we started our new topic about rivers and we have learnt all of the vocabulary assosiated with rivers eg tribulary, meander, mouth, source and estuary. Why not test us at home to find out what this vocabulary means! We are looking forward to our trip on Wednesday!
Primary 1 are very excited! Barnaby Bear received two tickets: one to travel to a hot place, and the other to travel to a cold place! Primary 1/2 chose the cold ticket and will be learning more about Russia. We chose the hot ticket and will be learning more about Brazil! Barnaby Bear will be flying out to meet children in Russia and Brazil and see how their lives are compared to our own!
But, before Barnaby Bear can go anywhere.. there’s packing to be done! We will be writing a list of things he needs to take to Brazil to make sure he doesn’t forget anything. Stay tuned for more!
Adeus por enquanto! (Goodbye for now)
Primary 1 🙂
We have been researching the different kinds of animals that can be found in Madagascar and finding out facts about their diet, habitat and behaviour. We worked in pairs to display our facts on a colourful poster. In writing we have been making lists of what our “wants” and “needs” would be if we were to be stranded on a Desert Island. We all agreed that food, water and shelter should go on our “needs” list.
On Monday Barnaby Bear got a letter and two tickets to other countries. The letter asked him to find out about these places before he could visit them. Each class chose one ticket. We chose the one to Russia so we talked about what we know about Russia. This turned out to be quite a lot. We talked a lot about the Winter Olympics and what we thought it would be like there. We decided to look for it on the class globe to see how far away it was from us – it is a very long way away and some parts are quite close to the North Pole. We decided the first thing we needed to learn about was the weather and what Barnaby would need to pack. We used Google (Jamie’s idea) and information we had in a book about a boy called Sasha who lives in Siberia in Russia. We have been writing lists for Barnaby to help him pack for his trip. We have some other plans so watch this space.
