Primary 6 have enjoyed tackling some maths challenges this week as part of Maths Week Scotland. We have had some tricky challenges in the mornings to get our mathematical brains in gear and have taken part in the Sumdog Maths Week Scotland Contest. We are very proud of Amen for reaching 203rdplace on the leader board out of over 70, 000 students!
As part of our Jacobites topic, we have been working on chronology and timelines through making our own timelines of the Jacobite Rebellions. We also applied our addition skills to work out how many soldiers fought in some of the battles.
We are continuing with our focus on addition in Maths Talk. Here is a brief explanation of the different mental addition strategies we use in class to help you support your child at home:

Primary 4 explored their rights and decided which ones they thought were most relevant for their class charter. They then talked about what the pupils and the adults would have to do to ensure that these rights were respected. Finally, they shared ideas for how the charter could be presented in our class. Everyone agreed that Eve’s idea of displaying it on a Smartboard with everyone watching it would be a great idea. Here is our display.
Last week at Library Club we were exploring Islands. We thought about what we would take with us to our desert island and had lots of great ideas from compasses and maps to books and food.
Moira read Katie Morag and the New Pier by Mairi Hedderwick. We learnt that Katie Morag lives of the Isle of Struay.
