Sports day will take place on Thursday 9th May at 1:30pm, on the playing fields beside the school. Sports Day will include potted sports and traditional races. Children can come to school on Thursday dressed ready for Sports Day, please ensure no football colours are worn. We would also request that all children remember to bring their water bottle to school on that day so they can take it to the field with them. To join in with their team spirit we would request if possible children wear a top in their Pumphie Pals colour:

  • Almond – Green
  • Breich – Red
  • Calder – Blue

There will be an area on the field designated for families to spectate the events and we would request that parents/ carers please stay in this area. Dogs are not permitted at Sports Day. Please note, due to health and safety, there will be no access to the school for spectators. Due to photograph restrictions, we ask that you only take photographs of your own child/ children and ensure that no photos or videos of other children are taken, or posted on social media.

At the end of Sports Day, can we please request that all parents/ carers stay on the field until all the children have safely returned to the school building. Then we will open the playground and parents/ carers can collect their child from outside their classroom door.

Nursery Care Inspection Success

As you know, in February our nursery underwent a Care Inspection under the new model of inspection.

They graded us:

  • Quality of care and support 5 – Very Good
  • Quality of management and leadership 4 – Good

Some of the positives from the report included:

  • We found the nursery to be welcoming with a warm and friendly atmosphere.
  • Children experienced kindness and compassion from staff that used physical affection, for example high fives and cuddles, to ensure children felt
    supported and secure.
  • The service provided different opportunities for parents to stay and participate in their child’s nursery experience, including termly ‘stay and play’ sessions.
  • A nursery blog, weekly newsletter and online learning journal were in place to share updates with parents.
  • Children requiring additional support had individualised plans in place which were subject to regular review.
  • Staff worked in partnership with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists and a link educational psychologist to ensure children experienced consistent and stable support.
  • It was evident staff valued snack time and understood the learning opportunities and positive experiences it could provide. Children enjoyed an unhurried snack in a relaxed atmosphere with many different conversations and social interaction taking place.
  • Children were encouraged to be active and had daily access to a well-equipped nursery garden.
  •  Staff supported children to risk assess independently by teaching them how to make judgments based on their
    individual abilities.
  • Staff told us they felt supported by the senior leadership team and all newly appointed staff confirmed they had a mentor to support their integration into the team.
  • Pumpherston and Uphall Station Community Primary School
had experienced a number of recent changes, including staff roles and responsibilities, and their overarching approach to play, learning and development. The changes had been well led and managed, and were having a
    positive impact on children.
  • We found a strong commitment from senior leaders and staff to collegiate working within the setting and wider learning community.

P7 Transition

It’s that time of year when our P7 children find out their high school destinations and hopefully you have received or will be receiving your letter shortly.

This term our Primary 7 children are taking part in an interdisciplinary learning project that will support them with transition to high school. This project will include five workshop visits to Broxburn Academy on Fridays which all pupils will attend (regardless of their destination high school). The dates and information about the sessions are included in the attached letter below.

A bus will collect the children from PUSCPS at 9am and they will return in time for the end of the school day, at 12:25pm. An EE2 form will be sent home, please complete by Wednesday 1st May.

Children who are not attending our catchment school of Broxburn Academy will receive a letter from their school notifying of their transition days or please contact their school office for further information.
