JLT Group – Sporting Stars
On Thursday 2nd May my JLT group – The Sporting Stars met with Ross Logan from Active Schools.
The group shared their findings from some questionnaires they had carried out across the school. We wanted to find out how many children currently attend clubs run by Active Schools and if children don’t attend a club then the reasons why. We also wanted to find out what type of clubs children would like to see Active Schools providing in the future.
Across the upper school, the most popular option was Dodgeball and as a result Active Schools are going to offer a Dodgeball club for P4-P7. Further details to follow in a separate post.
The group also helped Ross to complete part of the online assessment for Sport Scotland’s School Sport Award.

We will let you know very soon what level we have been awarded.

If you have any other suggestions for easily prepared healthy snacks, please let us know.
P7 Community Class Charter
P7 have been working together to plan, design and create our class charter. We started by looking at the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and chose 7 Rights we thought were most relevant to our class. We then thought about what both adults and pupils could do to ensure the Rights were met. Next, the class brainstormed different ideas on how to best display our charter. We decided on ‘The Hollywood Walk of Fame’ idea as we believe we are all stars.
We think it looks great! We hope you agree. P7, Mrs Andison & Mrs McConvilleÂ
P3 DYW
WAL:Â about the world of work.
 I can:
– explain the different roles of an increasing number of people in society.
–Â explain what some jobs involve.
Last week for DYW week, we had talks from Dawn Fresh Manufacturing, a Midwife and Mrs Slzawlowska. We learned about their jobs and what they have to do at their work. We wrote about our own ‘Dream Job’ and what we would have to do at it.
Olivia P’ I would like to be an Engineer and build a flying machine.’
Layla ‘I would like to be an artist and paint paintings to sell to people for their homes.’
Kieron ‘ I would like to be a builder and work on a construction site driving the machinery.’
Liam ‘ I would like to be in the Army and protect people.’Â
In pairs/trios, we also designed and created a digital character for a video game as part of a whole school challenge. We voted as a class and the two winning teams were Eve, Ryleigh & Eilidh and Rachel & Mitchell. What do you think of our designs?
We all enjoyed learning more about the world of work and taking part in the challenge.
P3
Digital Learning Week – P3
WAL: to use technology to follow and record directions using words, signs and angles.
I can:
- suggest & record instructions for a programmable toy (Bee-bot)
- Â suggest & record instructions for a Sprite (2D image)
Last week we had lot of fun using technology to enhance our learning in Maths.
Bee- bots – we played with the Bee-bots to learn how they worked and then we recorded directions. We got our Bee-bots to make squares and rectangles.
We used the ‘Turtle Program’ on https://www.j2e.com/jit5#turtle. We recorded directions for our Sprite (2D image of a rocket) to get it to travel in a clockwise direction around all the planets. The extension activities were to program the rocket to go anti-clockwise, to add an extra Sprite and to use the advanced program.
What we thought – Dylan ” I enjoyed adding a second sprite and programming it. It felt like I had a magic power because I could make them both move.”
Olivia “i enjoyed getting the Bee-bot to make the shapes.”
Connor L ” I enjoyed recording the directions for my rocket and seeing it move on it’s own”
Emily “I enjoyed adding another sprite because it felt like a challenge.”
The class are keen to use both the technologies in the future especially the website https://www.j2e.com/jit5 as it has lots of other exciting activities to explore.
World Book Day: George’s Marvellous Medicine
In our workshops, we looked at the book ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ by Roald Dahl. We read an extract from the book and discussed what the book is about and why it’s such a great book. We then made a group ‘medicine’ using a variety of ingredients you could find in a kitchen or bathroom. Everyone got a chance to choose an ingredient and decide how much of it to put in. After putting it in the bowl and giving it a good mix, the children wrote their ingredient up on the whiteboard to create our group recipe. Our ‘medicines’ smelled as horrible as they looked! After creating our group recipe, everyone got the chance to write a recipe of their own. If anyone makes their own ‘medicine’ (under adult supervision) remember to post a photo on the blog.
