P3 Weekly Reflection 7.12.18

What an exciting week we have had.  The children have worked really hard to practise their assembly lines and were amazing this morning when sharing their learning with the whole school.  It was lovely to see so many grown-ups there to support the children and we appreciate your lovely feedback.

As well as our own assembly, we attended a whole school assembly led by Mrs Mill on Resilience.  We will be working hard to learn the skills needed to be more resilient in tougher times.  Anna reminded us that the main character who will help us to learn about Resilience is called Skipper and he will be teaching  us to navigate our boats along the river of life.

This week’s highlights from the children:-

Olly “I enjoyed getting ready for the assembly.”

Kalista “I enjoyed the fact that so many parents could come to see our assembly.”

Joe “I liked the parents’ feedback from our assembly.”

Luke N “I enjoyed practising the assembly.”

Finn “I enjoyed the assembly too.”

Ethan “I enjoyed when we got to go up on the stage and read our stuff.  It was scary and I got butterflies in my tummy but it was fun.  I think we should film the assemblies for the parents who can’t make it.”

Have a lovely weekend and remember the Christmas Lights will be switched on this evening in the village at 6pm.  Look forward to seeing you there.

P3 Weekly Reflection 30.11.18

This has been a very busy but enjoyable week.  Thanks to all the parents who attended our PATPAL session on Tuesday, the children were so excited to be able to share their learning with you.  The children will be sharing more of their learning during our assembly next Friday (7th December), we hope to see as many of you as possible.  Jarrad said he enjoyed talking to the parents about our Wellbeing Wheel and was pleased that the parents enjoyed their visit.  Mrs Mill complimented both Jarrad and Leo on how confidently they were able to talk about the Wellbeing Wheel – well done boys!

Tomorrow sees this year’s Christmas Fair and we look forward to seeing you all there between 10am and 12:30pm.  The children have been busy making some snowmen and penguin cards to sell, these will be on sale for £1 each.  Joe and Lakshya said creating their Christmas cards was the highlight of their week.

William said he was pleased to receive his flu vaccination this week.  Hopefully this will help to keep the children fighting fit during the winter months.  As we approach the season of colds and coughs, the children and I would very much appreciate donations of tissues to help keep the bugs at bay!

Finn said his highlight this week was watching the P4 assembly about Advent.  Emma M reminded us that advent is about counting down to something and we learned that Christians use advent wreaths and candles to count down to the birth of Jesus.  Some of the children found it hard to believe that we used to have advent calendars with only pictures in them!

In maths this week we have been developing our understanding of money.  We have been learning to recognise all coins and notes to £5 and have been working out combinations of coins that can be used to pay for different amounts.  We will continue to develop our understanding of money with various Christmas themed tasks in the coming weeks.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow at the Christmas Fair.

It’s all about Enterprise in P7

We have been so busy this week that there wasn’t time for pupils to share their learning, so I will do it for them.

This week has been all about their enterprise project. Firstly there was lots of maths to be done in order to find out where was the best place to buy the items we needed. We had to do a lot of calculations to work out how much we needed and how many packs we would have to buy. Then we had to take account of any special offers like buy one get one half price. Next we had to work out how much each item would cost and decide on a price.

We were originally going to make papier mache pots for our bulbs but this was proving to be too time consuming to dry them out and we ran out of time.

Planting the bulbs was great fun (and messy!). We learned lots about wrapping too, including how to curl ribbon. The cellophane was quite tricky to use as it kept sliding away, so we needed teamwork and perseverance to get the wrapping looking good.

Now all we have to do is wait until the spring to see the beautiful flowers.

Our pots are £3 each and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the Christmas Fair.

P2 This Week

P2 have had a busy week. In Literacy we have been learning to spell words with the ‘ur’ sound. We have been working on writing capital letters E and F as well as alphabetical order activities. As part of book week the children enjoyed sharing their favourite books from home. We also decorated our classroom door in the style of a book cover taken from the novel we are reading at the moment, ‘The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson.

In maths we have continued our work on subtraction recording our answers on a number line. We have been measuring objects that are shorter or longer than 1 metre.

The children also had lots of fun making their hot chocolate reindeers for our Christmas Fair.

Lots of great learning in P7 this week. No one has even mentioned Shakespeare, but we have been learning about him for Book Week. We have all been amazed that he invented so many words we still use today; like elbow, fair-play and majestic, and many, many more!

Brandon – The maths that I did with Mrs Marron was fun in the 11 times table.

Erin – I am proud of myself because I saved two goals in football so now I know I am improving!

Sophie M. – I really liked football with Neil even though it was really cold. I also liked practicing for the sports hall athletics and I think I am getting quite good at the sprinting and standing high jump.

Elise – I really think I improved a lot in Maths because at the start of learning long division I didn’t understand it but now I can even find the remainder.

Harry – I think I improvised in football when my knee got really sore I kept on going.

If you have any newspapers please could you send them in to help with our enterprise next week. Thank you!

Another fast and furious week in P7, finishing on a high as we finished the West Lothian Sumdog competition in 5th place having also been the daily winners on Wednesday. Special mention to Sophie  who finished 3rd in the individual competition, getting 952 correct answers out of 1000 questions.

Arron – This week I really enjoyed the division questions because the one with remainders I found really easy and now that has helped me with my division sums on the big maths questions. In P.E. we ran from one wall to another and we done it twice and I got 15 seconds all 3 times I ran back.
