P1a Learning Reflection W/E 7th December

The weeks are sure flying in. P1 have had another busy week working hard and learning lots. In literacy we learned the sounds y and w. We taught ted how to write these sounds, built words such as web with them and completed a word search with y words in it. In writing we created a poster advertising our nativity. Our poster had to include a detailed picture, the title of our nativity, where and when it is happening. Some of our posters are displayed around the school. In number talks we have been continuing to learn about skip counting and recognising a visual pattern. This week we counted in 5s as well as 10s. We have been using Numicon to support our learning about subtraction within in 10. In Science we made pop up penguins. We have been continuing to practise for our nativity and are ready for our dress rehearsal on Monday 10th December and our two performances to our parents, first of all on Tuesday 11th December at 2.30pm and then on Wednesday 12th December at 10am. Welcome back! We hope you had a relaxing holiday. We are very lucky  as this week we have been joined by Miss Fraser. Miss Fraser will be with us for five weeks. This week we have been revising the sounds already learned and in particular the sounds u and b. In writing,  we wrote about our family. Our target was copying an adult’s writing from a white board. In Maths, we have been investigating shapes. We identified 2D shapes and 3D shapes. “2D shape is a flat shape.”says Isaac. “3D shapes are not flat.” says Ayden. Some of us went on a shape walk around the school. When we found a shape we took a photo of it.  We also sorted shapes as to whether they had round sides or straight sides. In music we were playing instruments along to the story of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. We used instruments to make the sounds of the grass, water, mud, wind and forest. In art, we created our own planet by printing with paint and bubble wrap. We also coloured in a space rocket. Pictures of our planets to follow when they are finished.

Here are some of the children’s reflections:

In numeracy, we have been doing Number Talks. We have been looking at dot patterns and discussing how many dots and how we saw them. We have been learning to identify patterns and copy and complete these patterns. In writing we worked with a partner to create an acrostic poem about Autumn. We had to brainstorm good words. We made the brick and straw houses from the Three Little Pigs. In P.E, we played the traffic lights game. We also worked on our hand eye co-ordination and balance. We put a bean bag on our heads and walked, jogged and ran around the room whilst trying to keep the bean bag on our head. We also practiced throwing and catching the beanbag.  We designed our Christmas card and it is being sent away today. We drew pictures of what we liked to do with our families.
