This week in P2

This week we began looking at arrays in multiplication and using them to help count in groups. We made arrays out of play doh to show how to make them. We had a visit from P6 to talk to us about road safety this week as well and we designed posters to show why road safety is so important. We are continuing to learn how to write information reports in literacy with the support of Mrs Robertson. We began our new topic looking at space and thinking about what we wanted to learn about.  We have lots to look forward to over the next few weeks.

This week in P2

This week has been an amazing week in P2. We have taken part in lots of book week activities such as Drop Everything And Read time, making book covers and bookmarks, creating finger puppets, having a secret reader in our class, watching a live reading session with Julia Donaldson and James Robertson (who translates Julia Donaldsons’ books into Scots language) and also receiving our new Bookbug reading bags.
We were also very lucky to be joined by our family and friends this week for our sharing the learning afternoon where we joined in with lots of other reading activities. Then we also had the chance to visit the book fair this week and read lots of books. It has been a super busy week but it has been brilliant!

This week in P2

This week has been busy finishing off our climate posters and working in groups to display the correct animals that live in those climates. We have started to look at counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s and are discussing how this links to multiplication. We enjoy working on Sumdog in class as part of our maths lessons as well. We have also started a new genre of writing this week and we have been learning about information reports.  We are very much looking forward to Book Week next week and can’t wait for all of the activities.

P3 Learning

This week we recapped the time work we should know from P2 of o’clock, half past & quarter past. We worked in pairs to test each other. Then we challenged each other to try to tell quarter to times. We will continue to work using analogue clocks and start to use digital times next week.

We have just started learning to write a discussion. To do this we need to think about ‘arguments for’ and ‘arguments against’. So far we have completed discussion text for the questions, ‘Should children wear school uniform?’ and, ‘Should we have a class pet?’. Next week we will be thinking about the question, ‘Should children play at school?’.

We have also been learning about using question marks and have been enjoying finding them in our reading books.

Learning in P3/2

We have been working in Writing and we continue to use our “Bump It Up Wall” to help us improve our writing. We are learning to talk about our writing and peer-assess to help us identify our next steps. We worked in groups last week to peer-assess our last piece of writing and we wrote feedback on the desks using white board pens.

The writing we peer-assessed this week are now displayed on our Literacy Bump It Up Wall. We decided where they should go on our wall depending on what each person did well and what they need to work on to “bump up” their writing.

We are also working hard in Guided Reading. We are learning to read fluently and this term we are focusing on questioning. We start each Guided Reading lesson with “echo reading.” Miss Marra used to demonstrate this and now one of us leads it for the class. It helps us to practise reading fluently. We then split into our Reading groups to work on different learning activities. One group works with Miss Marra each day and we practise echo reading with our group. We also work on Comprehension skills. We have been using questioning cards to ask and answer questions about our book.

We are continuing to develop skills in Numeracy and we enjoy engaging in Number Talks daily. We recently took part in our first Choral Count of the term and we came up with even more number patterns than last time. We were great at talking about the patterns we noticed and talking about each other’s ideas. Our favourite thing about this is when we get to “be the teacher” and stand at the board to share our pattern. We came up with some patterns that Miss Marra didn’t even notice! We could talk about the Numeracy skills we were using. We stood in front of the board this time and it made us all stay focused on our learning. We liked this much better than sitting down for a choral count.

We can’t wait to continue to share more of our learning with you! Watch this space to see our progress in Writing. We are so proud of ourselves!

This week in P2

This week has been very busy in P2. We have been making 3D shapes out of lollipop sticks and play doh to create shapes. We have also been looking at subtraction skills and using loop cards to practise this. We began our group projects in our topic work and each group is looking at a different climate zone and thinking about the animals that live there. We are hoping to finish these in time four our Sharing the Learning afternoon in a couple of weeks. We have also discussed Bonfire safety this week and created posters to show how to be safe and have fun on the 5th November.

This week in P2

Another very busy week in P2. This week we are finishing off our addition and subtraction learning and we are beginning to look at multiplication. We have been using loop cards working in partners to solve problems in maths. We looked at shapes in the real world and discussed what they might be. We enjoy our daily number talk as it promotes a lot of discussion. We have also been doing a lot of Sumdog in class as part of maths lessons and using our QR codes to choose a maths game to practise.
We have had fun creating our own pointillism pumpkins this week as well and learning about this style of art.

Sharing the Learning in P3/2

We had a very exciting start to our new term in P3/2 as we had our Sharing the Learning for parents and carers on Thursday. We focused on our learning in Numeracy and we were excited to show off all the hard work we have doing in multiplication so far. We used concrete materials to make times tables and we wrote the calculations on the desk. We love writing on the desk!

We showed our parents and carers how to play “Whack a Mole” on the ipads and we were confidently able to explain how this game helps us to skip count. We share our Dienes materials and showed our adults how we can use them to make two, three or four digit numbers. We also enjoyed showing off all the other tools we use to support our learning in Numeracy. Some of were also excited to show our jotters to our adults too, especially to show our great progress in Writing so far this year.

Thank you to all our parents and carers who came to our Sharing the Learning. It was a lovely afternoon and the children really enjoyed having you all in class with us.

This week in P2

It has been great to be back after the October holiday. We have been continuing to look at writing descriptions and working on addition and subtraction in numeracy. We have used our numeracy skills  through play opportunities as well to support our learning.  We are continuing to look at animals and different climate zones for our topic and learning about habitats.

P 3 Learning Times Tables

We have been using arrays to help us learn our times table. As a class we worked on our 2 x table, making arrays with counters, drawing them on our desks and then writing the calculation. Some people were able to do this quickly so moved onto the 5 times table. By the of the week, a small group were able in their 5 times table so after the holidays will start work on the 3 times table. Lots of learning at each child’s own level.
