P1 News

Last week, we were visited by Fischy Music! We learned new songs and had good fun singing and dancing. Then we had a school concert in the afternoon which was very loud and great fun.

In Literacy, we continue to learn new sounds: ‘u’ , ‘l’ and ‘f’, and are practising blending to read small words. We read in school on a Monday and a Tuesday, and then we send books home on a Tuesday to be returned on a THURSDAY.

In Numeracy, we have been learning all about addition and can add two sets together. We use the vocabulary – add, plus, equals, makes and total.

This week is Book Week. We are enjoying stories every day in class and taking part in fun activities. Yesterday we listened to stories and songs in a live event with Julia Donaldson. We all know some of her books and shared our favourites. We look forward to seeing you at the library on Wednesday at 2.20pm when book bags will be gifted!

P1a News

We’ve had a really busy week in P1a.

In Maths we have been continuing to learn about time and have been reading o’clock and half past times on digital and analogue clocks.

Our new sound this week was ‘ai’ and we made a list of ‘ai’ words, but soon realised that this sound can be written differently e.g bear, whale etc. We also tried to make words that rhyme and used magnets and flip charts to make rhyming word families.

On Wednesday we had our sharing the learning afternoon. Thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to come along. We had a great time trying out all of the senses activities. We had smelling pots to guess the smell, tasting activities to identify sweet, sour, bitter and salty, shakers to make for the sense of hearing, fun glasses to design for sight and lots of different textures to stick onto a huge hand for the sense of touch. It was agreed afterwards that the tasting one was the best!

Clay After School Club

The primary one and two pupils had a super spooky time yesterday at our Clay After School club.

They were able to paint the wonderful creations they had made the week before.  There were some great Halloween figures and objects, including an orange pumpkin and several black bats and cats. We also had some stars, a tiny elephant and a bird’s nest with little eggs.

Fantastic work everyone!

I wonder what we will make next week?

P1

This week in Literacy, we have been learning to recognise  our new sounds ‘t’ and ‘i’ and form our letters correctly. We have also been playing some listening games to practise the four good listening skills, and have enjoyed meeting and sharing stories with our buddies in the library.

In Health and Wellbeing, we have thought about healthy eating and designed our favourite meal, and we have also been discussing what makes a good friend.

In Numeracy, we have been trying to look for numbers all around us. It’s amazing how many we found at school! How many can you spot around your home , at the shops or in the street?

Primary 1

Primary 1a enjoyed sharing their learning in our school assembly. It was all about Fairyland. They loved dressing up as a dragon, knights, kings , queens and fairytale characters.  They read all their parts beautifully, included a fairytale quiz and performed a great action song at the end. Great work!

The children also had fun at a judo session on Wednesday. Look at our moves!

By the end of a busy week , we were all treated to an exciting BMX bike display. Our hearts were in our mouths watching some of their jaw-dropping stunts!

P1 news

We had a very active week in Primary 1 this week.  We enjoyed our visit from the SSPCA where we learned all about Scottish wildlife and what to do if we found any animals that were sick or in danger.

We also went on a Santa Stroll around our school grounds and the surrounding area. It was great fun! We had to spot letter clues on our journey and note them down in pairs. At the end we slid all the sounds together to make a Christmas phrase…’ Santa Claus’.

Primary 1 Music

On Monday we had an exciting and active music session with Fischy Music.  We danced and sang to some familiar and some new songs. Primary 1 had a great time!

In class we were busy preparing for the Fayre at Tots Spot on Saturday. We have practised our measuring to make reindeer food to sell at the fayre.

P1 Book Week

We’ve had lots of fun this week during Book Week. We read about Arlo , the lion who couldn’t sleep, and made our own Arlos with a song that helps us to sleep too. We looked at a non-fiction book and made our own woodland animals book for our class library. The book ‘Inch and Grub’ explored friendships and showed us what was important. We thought about what made a good friend and put our ideas on friendship flowers. We also chose a book and used a scene to make a window display.

Our week ended with Children In Need Day. Many thanks for your kind donations.

P2/1 Learning this week

Primary 2/1 have been working hard this week.

We have taken a small break from our Romans topic and introduced a mini-topic about Pandas in response to questions the children had about the Red Pandas coming to the Five Sisters Zoo.  The children were very interested to learn that Red Pandas and Giant Pandas are not related and this made them more curious.  We made a list of what questions the children had about Pandas and then decided to watch factual videos to find our answers then make a Fact File about them.  The children also enjoyed following an artist to learn how to draw Giant Pandas.  So far we have been learning lots about Giant Pandas.

In numeracy Primary 2s are learning about money and Primary 1s are having more practise with addition.

In literacy Primary 1s are making great progress in their reading and our Primary 2s are learning about reading with fluency and expression as well as comprehension techniques.

At the start of the day before Register, the children have also enjoyed finishing off our Roman Colosseum display picture by adding Romans, gladiators and wild animals in the arena.

I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend,

Mrs Meikle
