Here is your home learning grid for this week. As this week is a short week, there are less tasks to complete. You will also notice one of your Literacy tasks is to access the Collins Big Cat ebooks. Please see the additional attached document with more information. You will also find the username and password in this document:)

Here are the Collins levels for each group across both classes. These are just the starting levels and could change as you progress through the books.

Amazing Learning in P2M!

Wow Primary 2M! I am so impressed with all the effort you are putting into you learning at home. You have all been working so hard and being really creative with your learning.  I miss you all but am really enjoying having a look at your fantastic work. Here are a few examples of some of the amazing learning you have been doing. Remember, if your work is not included this week, it could be shared on the blog next week.

P2M Science with Mrs Beattie

We look forward to Science with Mrs Beattie every Tuesday and this term, we have been learning about materials. One of our favourite learning activities was when Mrs Beattie asked us to use different materials to build a bridge. We had to work collaboratively to decide which materials worked best and why. We used what we know about the properties of different materials to make decisions in our groups. Mrs Beattie was very impressed with the learning conversations that were taking place. We were proud to use all the collaborative skills we have learned in class to work as a team. We listened well to each other’s ideas and we made sure everyone took part in the challenge.

P2M Learning Update

We have been so busy with all our learning in Primary 2M! We have decided to blog more often so we can share all our hard work with everyone. We would also like to blog with Miss Marra so we can share how we feel about our learning.

In Literacy, we have been working hard to learn our sounds. These are the sounds we have recently been learning: au, aw, ew, nk, ng, st, ft and mp. This week, we are learning to read and write words ending with rk, nd and lt. Some of us are also learning to sound out and blend CVC words. One of our favourite learning activities in Literacy is Hangman on a white board. We enjoy learning to recognise the sounds in our words with a partner. We are also enjoying our target task because we can challenge ourselves and learn to complete a pencil activity independently.

One of our highlights of the term so far is our Topic on The Romans. We have already learned so much about Gladiator battles, Roman soldiers and life as a Roman child. One of our favourite learning activities was using paper to make a Roman fort and a Colosseum. We also learned about the toys Roman children used to play with and we found it very interesting that they often made their own toys. We worked independently or with a partner to make our own Roman toys. We made toys including figures, dolls, kites, swords, shields and toy cars.

 

Roman children played with many toys that we enjoy playing with. However, we were shocked to learn that Roman children were not taught about gender equality. Girls were encouraged to play with dolls and boys were encouraged to play with swords and shields to practise for future battle. We know girls and boys can play with the same toys, do the same jobs and be anything we want to be. This helped us to understand more about how different life was in Roman times. We are looking forward to learning more.

Book Week in P2M

We have had a very busy and exciting book week! One of the highlights was when we shared our learning with our families and friends on Thursday. We also really appreciate all the feedback from parents and carers which is on display in our cloakroom. Another highlight was decorating our door to celebrate “George’s Marvellous Medicine” by one of our favourite authors, Roald Dahl.

 

We are very proud of all our hard work. All Miss Marra did was print the letters and she helped us put all our work on the door. We did all the other work ourselves. A huge thank you to our two super stars Esmae and Cooper for drawing George and Grandma. Thank you also to Farah for helping with colouring Grandma. We have our fingers crossed that our hard work pays off when the winning door is announced on Monday. However, as Carson so wisely stated, “it is all about having fun and trying our best” and we definitely did. Well done Primary 2M!

Phonics in P2M

We have had a very busy week in Primary 2M. We have learned more about pirates, designing our own pirate flag for Captain Abigail and finding a real pirate flag in our class. In Phonics, we were excited to use our new overlays and we used our Say, Make, Write boards to help us read, make and write our words.

Learning in Primary 2

Article 28: We have the right to learn.

We have been so busy working hard and getting used to our new routines in Primary 2 which means this is our first blog post of the year.

In Literacy and Maths, we have been taking part in learning activities at stations where we are provided with opportunities to say, write, make and do different tasks to help us with our learning.

In Literacy we have learned th, sh and ch words e.g. with, ship, chat. This week, we are learning words that begin with “wh.” Some of us are also practising reading and writing CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant; e.g. cat, mop, bug etc). Please support your child to practise reading and writing these words at home. Your child will also have opportunities to practise their sounds as part of their homework grid. In Maths we have been working on numeral identification and we have been working hard to order and sequence numbers within 100.

Every morning, we take part in Smart Start when we come into the classroom. We work individually, in pairs or groups on different learning activities including games, puzzles, mindfulness colouring, letter formation, quiet reading and making numbers using concrete materials such as cubes, counting sticks or numicon. This helps us to feel calm and ready for the day.

 

Our new Topic is “The Human Body.” So far, we have learned about the brain, the heart and the skeleton. We even made brain hats to show the sides of our brains and how they are used. We worked hard in groups to make skeletons which was a great challenge and we can’t wait to show them off at Parents’ Evening.

 

Just a reminder about our P.E days in Primary 2: P2M – Wednesday and Thursday. P2W – Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

Creating New Games in P5J

Today Primary 5J had a fantastic day in the sun. Last week, we took our learning about instruction writing and created our own new games as part of our Health learning. Today, every child taught a short lesson about their game. We then evaluated their instructions and provided them with Stars and Wishes. We will be putting all of our fantastic ideas into a book to provide pupils and staff with different games that they can play!

P2M Jupiter Artland

P2M visited Jupiter Artland last week and we really enjoyed our learning. We learned about the stories behind many of the sculptures and we had opportunities to be very creative, especially when we made our own aliens. This was a fantastic way to start our new topic “The Enchanted Woodland.”

This was when we danced like the white building. We made up our own dances to  match all the patterns. We thought one side looked like a house and the other side looked like a castle.

This was a huge sculpture that some of us thought was a huge basketball net. We used our learning in Science to talk about which material we thought was used to make the sculpture.

It was so much fun walking up to the top of the grass hills. We could see the “Love Bomb” from the top which we found very exciting. Then we carefully walked back down while Miss Marra took a photo of the beautiful view.  We learned that the gardeners have to work very hard to cut the grass and keep this area neat. We think they do an amazing job.

It was very exciting using our imagination to talk about what we thought could be at the bottom of the hole in this sculpture. Hollie Mc thought the hole might take her to see her family in Australia. It was interesting to hear all our different ideas and we would like to explore this further in class.
