P3B Learn About Money Through Play

In P3B, we love Numeracy and Maths. We take part in Numeracy every day and on Tuesdays, we focus on our Maths Topic. “Money” is our Maths topic this term and we have been learning through play.

Miss Marra gave us a selection of coins and we worked with our learning partners to answer these questions:

What do you notice?

What do you wonder?

We had lots of questions about the coins and notes. We all recognised the bank cards and could talk about times when we had seen family members use these to pay for items. We had a class discussion about how most people use Apple Pay or bank cards to pay for items nowadays. During this discussion, we realised that it is still important to learn how to add coins to help us understand the value of money. This will help us to pay for things and budget when we are older.

We started using the money in different ways depending on our interests. Some of us collected one particular type of coin and added them together. Some of us started ordering the coins from smallest to biggest. We noticed that the largest coins are not always the highest in value. Some of us started adding the coins and showing Miss Marra the different values we can make. This then started the ball rolling with a different discussion. How much can we make with the coins?

We were confident sharing our learning with each other. We have photos on our Maths and Numeracy wall with examples of the discussions that took place. We are very excited for our parents and carers to see this on Parents Evening.

P3 Art

We have been learning about Artists called Miro and Mondrian.  We talked about the shapes they made and colours they used.  We then created our own picture in their style.  Some of us even tried to draw animals using the same idea.  We then talked about what we thought about their artwork.  Most of us preferred Miro, especially if we were creating our own, as his lines are wiggly so easier to draw than Mondrian’s straight lines.  We then took our learning outdoors and created chalk drawings in their styles.

P3 Learning

On Wednesday a surprise arrived in our classroom. It was a box and it had a label that said, “To P3a, don’t open until Friday.”

We were very excited an wrote a list of what might be in the box.

On Friday we finally got to open the box.

It contained… pine cones!!!!

We all had a look and wrote down what we might like to learn about them.

Let the learning begin!!!

P3B Creativity

As we get nearer to the end of term we have discussed all the things we would like to do together before our time in Primary 3 is over. Drawing. painting and making models were high on our wish list. So on Tuesday this week we had a very creative time during our Art and craft afternoon.

We enjoyed making a variety of things including bunting for Gala Week!

Another Great Week of Home Learning in P2A

Dear parents/carers,

What a fantastic week this has been! We have had lots of snow but there has still been so much effort with our home learning. In Literacy, we have been learning magic e words with an o and we have been learning to find information in a text in Reading Comprehension. I have been so impressed with your thoughtful answers to the inference questions too. You worked super hard in Writing this week and you wrote the ending to your imaginative stories. Well done for working hard to use capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and connectives.

In Numeracy, we learned more about fractions and making equal groups to divide by 4. There have been some amazing photos of your equal groups uploaded to Seesaw to show how hard you are working. There has been so much creativity and well done to everyone who has been working on the remote learning grid tasks too. Jaysiel deserves a mention for her very expressive performance of “Chokey Chant” from Matilda the Musical which was one of your Drama tasks on the grid.

Harris has been doing some fantastic word building to practise spelling magic e with an o. Well done for working so hard to read and write your words Harris:)

Isabelle has been working hard to describe arrays in Number Talks this week. Well done for your hard work Isabelle:)
Look at Frankie’s amazing efforts with this week’s STEM challenge from Mrs Beattie. This is so impressive, Frankie! Well done for working so hard and you have shown great teamwork with mum and Danny to create this heart structure. Fantastic work:)
This is Evie’s super division task. She worked hard to describe the equal groups and write down how many objects were in each group. Brilliant Numeracy work Evie:)
This really impressed me this week! Isla’s wrote a fantastic ending to her imaginative story with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. She even used some connectives too. Well done for writing such a creative story and for really working hard to develop your confidence in Writing:)
Well done to everyone for all your hard work this week. I am so proud of you all. Thank you also to parents and carers for your continued support. Have a lovely holiday everyone:)
Miss Marra
