End of Term Learning in P3B

We take part in Number Talks every day. We have been learning to count forwards and backwards in decades using a 100 square. We know that the most efficient strategy is to count in tens.

Article 13: We have the right to find out things and share what we think with others.

Article 29: We have the right to develop our talents and abilities.

This was our Learning Intention for Number Talks. We always link our learning to the UNCRC.

“30 less than 102 is 72. I counted back in tens.”

“2o less than 76 is 56. You could count back in ones but it would take too long. The quickest strategy is to count back in tens.”

“40 less than 101 is 61. I counted back four which is the same as counting back four tens.”

“60 less than 88 is 28. I wouldn’t count back in ones because that would take ages. I counted back in tens. I counted back six tens.”

During our last week of Term 1, we engaged in Art which provided us with the opportunity to unleash our creativity. We each received a piece of paper with a black round sticker places somewhere on the page. We had a great discussion about what the sticker could represent and we used our ideas to create our own pictures. Have a look at some of our wonderful creations.

Royal Mail Competition Finalist!

We have received exciting news that one of our pupils has made it through to the 120 finalists of the Royal Mail ‘Heroes’ Stamp Design Competition! Well done to Lily in P6 🙂  We have our fingers crossed that you make it to the next round (where 24  from the 120 finalists will be announced in November) and hopefully even make it to the final 8 winning stamp designs! An incredible 606,049 entries were received from children across the UK, with an amazing 7,479 schools taking part so to make it through to the 120 finalists is a great achievement – we are very proud of you and love you ‘Heroes’ stamp design.

Lockdown Painted Stones

A massive ‘THANK YOU’ to our secret helpers who came in to the school playground last Friday to cement down the beautiful painted stones which our pupils and their families did during Lockdown.  We were delighted to see the finished result and are sure that you will agree that they have done a fantastic job. On behalf of everyone at East Calder Primary School THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Your help is much appreciated 🙂

Here are some of the photos of our COVID Snake which can be found in the P1-2 playground.

Primary 3D – Shadow Puppets

Primary 3D have been exploring a range of media to create props for a shadow puppet performance. The created storyboards to recreate the story of the Iron Man by Ted Hughes and used different objects and materials to bring the story to life. We all had a great time working together to create these pieces, well done everyone.
