Football Tournament P6/7

Well done to all the Primary 6 and 7 pupils who took part in the football tournament at West Calder yesterday. We had a lovely day for it and enjoyed playing against Mid Calder and Parkhead. Well done to both teams šŸ‘ coming 6th place and then 2nd place in the overall tournament. Making it to the final is something you should be very proud of 😊

Primary 3A Learning

We have been learning about nouns and adjectives. We worked together to come up with adjectives for the noun ‘apple’. Then we split into random partnerships and worked together to find adjectives for the nouns ‘car & dog’. We thought about our senses to help us come up with words. What did a car look like, sound like, smell like and if we were to touch it, what would it feel like?

Then we started learning about writing a description. To do this we read a passage and had to find all the nouns in it. We learned that a noun is a naming word for a people, place or thing. Next we used the same passage and highlighted all the adjectives. We thought of other describing words that could be used.

Sophia and Millie both shared their achievements with P7 last week.

Sophia – won this trophy for her dance exam. She won the trophy for cheer and a medal for overall dancing! Well done Sophia.

Millie – Millie won this trophy for being player of the match with her football team. Great job Millie!

Keep up the good work girls !

Medal Monday in P7!

On Monday this week, both Jakson and Hudson brought in medals to show our Primary 7 class.

Well done to Jakson who won two medals in his kickboxing tournament on the weekend. Jakson earned these for continous and point sparring and is now Scottish Champion. Well done for all your hard efforts!

Hudson brought in some interesting war medals, passed down to him from his ancestors. The medals belonged to his great great grandad John and his great uncle Frank. P7 loved hearing stories about the war and what medals were given for.

Thank you Jakson and Hudson for bringing them in and sharing your stories with us,

Miss Bennett

Showtime for P5 and P6!

After many weeks of rehearsal and preparation, Primary 5 and Primary 6 finally performed their Scottish Opera show, ā€˜Vikings! The Quest for the Dragon’s Treasure’ on Monday 17th June.

Everyone spent time in the morning with the Ā Scottish Opera coaches, who took pupils through their paces with stage directions and choreography. After lunch, pupils were very excited to see their costumes and really start getting into character.Ā  Some of the other classes came to watch the dress rehearsal and then parents , carers and invited guests took their places for our final performance.

The audience was blown away by the performance and so impressed with the confidence shown by everyone involved. The Scottish Opera professionals were also so impressed by Ā the childrens’ commitment and said that it made their job so much easier when pupils were so well-rehearsed and enthusiastic.

Miss Niven, Mrs Campbell and Mrs Stewart are all incredibly proud of everyone who took part – it was definitely worth all the hard work and effort! Well done everyone!

Sports Day – P3-5

Unfortunately, due to Scottish weather we had to move our P3-5 Sports Day off the grass and into school grounds/dining hall. Pupils completed activities such as an obstacle course, long jump and target throwing. The weather cleared up at the end of the day, which allowed P5 pupils to participate in sprints for their house. Well done to all that participated. I hope you had lots of fun!

Tetrahedron building in P6

Thanks to Conor from Morrison Construction who came in and spent the morning with us building a huge Tetrahedron! Team work was certainly the order of the day and it was great to see the class collaborating and problem solving to get the job done! The quality of the communication and decision making as a team certainly helped towards our end goal. Well done P6.

Sports Day P1-2

Happy Sports Day everyone!!

Unfortunately, due to Scottish weather we had to move our Sports Day off the grass and into school grounds/dining hall. The pupils were very resilient and loved working hard to achieve house points for their team. They visited 4 stations outside and 3 stations inside. They completed activities like bean bag target throw, javelin and an obstacle course! Well done to all that participated.

Free Book Friday!

We would like to let everyone know that we are launching FREE Book Friday.

We have a large selection of surplus books that we no longer require and would like to promote a love of reading by giving them away to pupils and families.

Every Friday pupils can choose to bring a bookĀ  home from our selection in school. We also hope the weather is kind and we will have tables with books in the playground for families to chose from.

Look out for the Free Books HERE sign. Feel free to take as many as you wish.

Happy Reading!
