NURSERY – Sports Day at Home
Hello Everyone,
June is usually the month we have our Nursery Sports Day with the children. We don’t want them to miss out on this fun event and so for this week’s Fun Learning at Home we are suggesting they have their own safe one at home with family. Please take photos and share with us on Home Learning in Learning Journals, stating whether you mind us sharing your photos or not on our nursery blog.
Sports Day supports and encourages many Health and Wellbeing learning opportunities
- Moving at different speeds, levels and directions with others in a designated space.
- Sustaining energetic levels of play/activity.
- Practising different ways of being active.
- Staying on task that may seem challenging, to achieve successes.
- Building eye/hand and eye/foot co-ordination.
- Sharing and co-operating when interacting with others.
- Learning how to be a good winner and cope appropriately with losing.
The Nursery Ladies have been working hard, practising and demonstrating fun activities for you to try at home. Please find below easy to follow instructions with photo demonstrations.
Bean bag race – If you don’t have a bean bag (like me!) take a pair of socks & fold them into a ball. Place the rolled-up socks onto your head and either race a parent/sibling around your garden or see how far you can walk around your garden before it falls of your head! I managed two laps of my garden before they fell off.
Coconut shy – Stack up some cans in a triangle on a table, take a ball and stand a few steps back from the table. Throw the ball and count how many you can knock over. Once you knock over all the cans you can try stacking up more cans or moving further away.
Optional: A four-legged friend could bring your ball back if you miss.
Welly Toss – We decided upon which welly we wanted to use, and the youngest person then went first to throw the welly. We then all had a turn of throwing the welly, we marked where it landed with a stone and the person who threw it the farthest was the winner (it was me).
Wheelbarrow Race – Pair up with another member of your family, one person can be the “wheelbarrow” and lies on their front on the grass, and the other is the “driver” and stands by the other persons feet. Before the race begins, the driver picks up the wheelbarrows ankles and the wheelbarrow lifts themselves onto their hands. Then….. Ready, Steady, GO! Once you are halfway to the finish line you can swap over.
Running Race – Choose a starting point to begin your race and a finishing point. My little girl chose to start at one side of the garden, run to the end and back to the start. One person can use the stopwatch on their phone to time how fast each member of your family takes to run and see who is the fastest.
Dribbling – You will need a ball and some cones or substitute cones (I have used bottles from the recycling) and filled them with water making them heavier, so they don’t fall over. You then dribble the ball in and out of the ‘cones’ as many times as you like, keeping the ball close to your feet and trying to avoid knocking the ‘cones’ over. Both me and my brother did 3 reps of this.
Bouncing a ball – Take a ball. Count how many times you can make it bounce. Can you show that number? (a grown up might have to help with this bit). Think… What surface does it bounce best on?
Egg and spoon race – Each competitor is given a soup or dessert spoon and an egg/small ball, e.g. golf ball to put on the spoon. Competitors must hold the spoon by the handle and NOT hold/touch/secure the egg!
The competitors line up at the starting line and when they are told to “go” they run as fast as they can without dropping the egg/ball. If the egg drops and breaks, they are out/ if the ball falls off the spoon, they can put it back on the spoon and begin to run again towards the finishing line. The first person over the line wins!!
Three legged race – You will need: 2 people and something to tie your legs together (Rope, Ribbon, Dressing gown tie, skipping rope). Set a marker to where you are going to run to, tie your legs together and get ready to GO! If there is more than 1 team you can race each other, and the winners are the team that reaches the finish marker first. If there is only 1 team you could time yourself and see how fast you can do it.
You will need to work as a team to make sure you move your legs at the same time, or you might fall! This will develop your coordination, communication and problem-solving skills.
Sack race – 1. Use a pillowcase instead of a sack for a sack race.
2.Everyone climb into their pillowcase before the race starts.
3.Get ready on the start line and
4.”On your marks get set go”
5.Jump in your pillowcase moving all the way to the finish line!
Throwing – 1. You will need a pot or a bowl and a pair of socks paired together.
2.Set the pot/bowl on a countertop or a table if you wish to do this outdoors.
3.Move 2 big step back from the pot/bowl.
4.Attempt to throw the paired socks into the pot/bowl.
5.If you do this successfully you can take a step back to make it more challenging.
Jumping – Can you do the hurdles? Get 5 teddies and place them in a line, spaced apart. Can you jump over them all? Can you jump over little teddies and big teddies?
Obstacle course – 1. Paper plate with middle taken out and decorated, you can use a kitchen roll holder or something similar to through plate over.
- Hula Hoop – step through then place over your head or use your imagination and pretend you have one.
- Throwing the ball in the bucket and if you have a hoop stand in it.
- Hopscotch – Use paper squares or chalk to draw them.
- Horsey Horsey – Use a cushion between your legs or any other soft toy.
- Pram or any other moveable toy.

Hi everyone,
Thank you for sending in all of your wonderful work. Here is some of your hard work from last weeks home learning grid (week 10).
In Maths, we have been working hard to learn our times tables and how to subtract. We have created our own posters and games to help us do this.
We were set a challenge to come up with our own social distancing games for when we return to school. We were asked to write down the rules to tell others how the game is played.
During lockdown we have all been missing our friends and family. We were asked to write a letter to someone we were missing during this time to let them know we were thinking of them and to make them smile.
You are all amazing and I am so proud of how hard you have all been working. Keep up all the hard work and keep safe.

N-P1 Transition Task – Week 4

Lola is a bit of a fussy eater so is not very sure about lunchtimes! Do you think you will try a school dinner, or take your own packed lunch?
Here is a little task for you. Can you plan and prepare a healthy packed lunch that you might want to take to school? You could do this by drawing it, or you could actually make up a packed lunch and eat it at home or in your garden!

The Great Science Share – Week 6
Well Waste warriors, how did you get on last week? Did you get creative with your household waste? Did you find out how far your breakfast travelled to get to your plate? I managed to find eggs that were laid less than 2 miles from my house so will be using that farm in the future!
This is our last week of the Great Science Share and it’s a theme I know many of you are passionate about. This week we are celebrating World Oceans Day!

P4S weekly Learning Grid 8.6.20
Morning everyone. Slightly different learning grid this week as all tasks are linked to Theme Parks. You have to create your own Theme Park, write a leaflet to give people information on your park, design and draw your favourite ride, create a menu for a restaurant and lots more fun activities.
Extra Maths task will be some multiplication sums. There have been a few of you that have forgotten some aspects of these sums so today, Monday 8th June, I will be live at 11.00 to remind the Squares and Triangles how to complete these sums. Join me if you want by clicking on the ‘join’ button once I have started meeting. Circles feel free to join and I can help you with anything you are stuck on too.
