P2B Class Learning

Good afternoon parents/carers,

We have had a super start to our Primary 2 journey! We have had lots of changes take place in our school life however we have coped extremely well and have shown fantastic resilience.

We have been learning lots of new things across all of our curricular areas and having lots of fun whilst doing so. One of our favourite activities was a STEM challenge set by Miss Walkingshaw. Miss Walkingshaw asked us to create our very own paper plate straw maze. We were provided with a list of things we could use:

1 pair of scissors

1 role of cello tape

1 paper plate

4 paper straws

We did an amazing job and are very proud of how they turned out!

Have a lovely weekend and keep safe.

Miss Walkingshaw

Primary 2/1

Primary 2/1 have been working very hard this term.

Literacy                                                                                                                                                       Primary 1 have completed their second set of sounds and have last week completed ‘m’ and ‘d’.  Some children are beginning to blend three lettered words out of these sets.  Primary 1s are also learning to write their name and some already can do this.

Primary 2 have also been completing their digraphs from their set and working on ‘oi’ and ‘oa’ last week.  Primary 2 are also working hard on their Fry’s Sight Words and some have moved onto #26-50 with the others very close to starting these too.  They have also been learning to uplevel their sentences using adjectives (describing words) and the children have had opportunities to create and talk about sentences they could write using pictures as a stimulus.

Numeracy                                                                                                                                               Primary 1 have completed learning All About Number 10 and have been using associated activities to consolidate this.  Primary 2s are learning about numbers up to 100 and doing activities to consolidate their learning in numbers before, after and within this range.

Science                                                                                                                                                       With Mrs. Beattie, P2/1 have been learning about Forces this term and made kites to learn about the power of the wind.

Health and Wellbeing                                                                                                                         P2/1 took part in the London Mini-Marathon Challenge of 2.6 miles  (4,184metres) and took great pride in running around the upper years’ playground for up to 5 laps each which was a total of 500 metres.  Multiplied by 21 children that day that adds up to 10,500 metres.  P2/1 you did a fantastic job in cracking the challenge!

Have a great holiday P2/1

Primary 2 Phonics

Dear parents/carers,

We are so proud of all the children for working so hard this term and settling back into school so well. They are a pleasure to have in our classes. Earlier in the week, we added Phonics words lists to show wh and qu words which the children have been learning this week. Here are the other sounds your child has learned in class with the word lists included for each group. So far, we have learned sh, th, ch, wh and qu. When possible, please support your child to read and write these words. More photographs of learning to follow after or October break.

Below are some examples of different ways to practise reading and writing these sounds at home.

  • Word detectives – try to find as many words as you can from your list in books. Write down any words you find.
  • Rainbow write – use three colours to practise writing your words on paper. Try to write over your word three times to create rainbow words.
  • Bubble words – Write your words in bubble writing and colour them.
  • Word hunt – write your words on small pieces of paper and ask an adult to hide them around the house. Try to find your words and read them aloud when you find them.
  • Sugar words – pour sugar on to a plate and use a straw to practise writing your words in the sugar.
  • Anagrams – ask an adult at home to write your words with the letters mixed up. Unscramble the words to write them correctly e.g. ipsh – ship.
  • Bake a cake and practise writing your words on the cake with icing.
  • Phonics interactive game – Fishy Phonics.  Link below. Or https://www.phonicsbloom.com/uk/game/fishy-phonics?phase=2

Thank you for your continued support and have a lovely October break.

London Mini Marathon Challenge

We did it!

A massive congratulations to all the pupils for completing this challenge. The children showed determination and resilience while running their laps. Some individuals where even able to go beyond 2.6 miles!

Each class was presented with a certificate to keep in their room as a reminder of their achievement.

Well done!

Learning in P1

P1 have been continuing to practise their sounds.

‘I liked making the dinosuar when we were learning the ‘d’ sound’ Felicity.

‘I liked making the rainbow for ‘r” Finlay.

‘I liked making the mouse mask for ‘m” Jack.

‘I like listening to stories’ Sofia.

During maths week the boys and girls went outside.

‘I liked making numbers from stones and leaves’ Harlen.

Pupils had fun collecting items and sorting them.   We also looked to find different shapes in the environment.

Please look out for the next set of sounds in school bags this week. c,k,e,h,r,m,d

Pupils will also have a sheet with the alphabet, showing how we form our letters at school.   Please don’t worry if your child does not know all the letters yet.

Many thanks.   The P1 team.

Primary 2A and 2B Phonics

In Primary 2,  we have been working really hard to learn our new sounds this term. We take part in lots of different learning activities to practise reading and writing our sounds.

Our sounds this week are wh and qu. Some of us are also practising CVC words. Here are our words lists for this week. At the end of the week we will add more word lists to the blog to allow our parents and carers to see all the words we have been working hard to learn. Please note that Literacy groups for both classes are included; however, we all know the name of our group and should be able to tell you.

Spelling Words 1

Please help us to practise reading and writing these words at home when you can. One of our favourite tasks is being word detectives. This is when we try to find the words from our list in books. It is great fun and we would love to do this at home too.

Thank you for all your support.

Maths Week P7S A webinar on 3D shapes and their properties

P7S had fun this morning creating their own 3D origami modular shapes whilst following instructions on a webinar. Japan is our current context so the link to cross curricular tasks allowed us to encompass a range of outcomes. The class had to listen very carefully to each sequential instruction, other skills they demonstrated were resilience and certainly perseverance. It was great to see teamwork coming into play with our origami experts sharing their knowledge with some of their peers and teacher!! We reinforced our knowledge of shape vocabulary using terms such as nets, vertices, parallel and faces and this was brilliantly times as our next context in Maths is shape. I am sure we will all be experts now. Well done P7S a great effort.

London Mini Marathon Challenge

This week, classes are taking part in the London Mini Marathon Challenge. It involves jogging or running 2.6 miles across two weeks from the 28th of September until Friday the 9th of October. In PE, students have been developing their stamina and the Mini Marathon is a great opportunity for them to apply their knowledge and embrace the challenge.

Please check back after the 9th to see how the classes got on!

More information can be found at:  https://www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com/mini-marathon/home.html

(Please note that we are not completing this challenge as a fundraising event just for fun!)
