This week we have been learning about money. We looked at the different coins. Some people decided to order them depending on their value. Next we were given an amount of a toy and had to give our partner the coins we could use to pay. We started off with numbers to 20p but soon moved up to 50p. Some even managed up to 99p! Then we went into the playground and wrote in chalk to show what coins we would use for certain amounts. Lots of active learning with partners.
P7 Buddies
It was great to see P7 getting to know their buddies this week. Every P1 took a letter away with them that was written by their P7 buddy explaining how they hope they can help them settle into school life. On Wednesday P7 met their buddies and participated in a range of activities from reading and drawing to sorting activities. On a rota basis the P7’s have also been helping in the playground and lunchtime in the dinner hall. It has been fantastic to see such a nurturing attitude.
Primary 1
Primary 1 has had a really fun week.
We have watched an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ panto, tried to beat the teacher in lots of different activities and played ‘Would I Lie to You’.
We wish you a lovely summer and thank you for your gifts and kind notes.
Mrs Hay would like to thank you for your generous gifts and good wishes. She will miss East Calder children lots!

Social Stories – Primary 7
Hi everyone!
Now that your child has met their new class and teacher, I wanted to provide Social Stories for them to look at incase they or yourselves wanted a reminder of doors they use and the people who can help them when they come back in August.
I have also recorded a version they might want to listen to which can help reassure children who are perhaps feeling a little worried about the change.
Take care,
Alison Baldacci (Principal Teacher).

A massive East Calder welcome to our new Primary 1s!
We had a fantastic time meeting all of our new Primary 1s and are very much looking forward to welcoming you back in August as you start your very exciting journey at East Calder.
I have attached some Social Stories as a little reminder of some important faces that can help you when you come and join us in August. You will also find a video of these which I have recorded for the children to listen to.
If you would like a printed copy of this – please contact the school and I can arrange this for you.
Take care,
Miss Baldacci (Principal Teacher).
