This week in P4!

What a great week in P4 again! We have learned a lot about homophones, planned and written a discussion text and completed lots of activities all about World Book Day. Thank you for sending photos of yourselves reading your favourite book and for taking part in the activities.  We looked at reading in unusual places, dressing up as a favourite character and enjoying a book in your pj’s among others. We have been learning all about position and direction this week in maths and have continued to look at our local community for our topic lessons. We were also the Daily Class Winner on Monday in the West Lothian Sumdog competition, well done everyone!  You have all worked so hard, here are just some examples of your great learning from World Book Day this week. There were so many wonderful photos on our Teams page P4 it was so difficult to choose just a few, well done!

I look forward to all of your learning next week. Have a lovely weekend.

P5 & P5/4 World Book Day

Yesterday was World Book Day.  P5 and P5/4 worked very hard. Everyone led their learning and chose how they wanted to complete each task. We are  super impressed with the creative ideas and different formats used to complete all activities. Excellent examples are shown below.

P2/1 Learning this week beginning 22nd February 2021

Welcome back class Primary 2/1.  You have settled in well to your routines this week and it’s been lovely to see everyone again.  This week we focused on overlearn of some of the numeracy and language learning we did during Remote Learning period and we also learned some new things.

Primary 1, in Language we learned our sounds sh, ch and th and practised writing these in our handwriting books.  In Numeracy we did more work on subtraction and made a giant flower with bugs for it and red crosses to mark out our takeaway numbers.  We used this method for our new subtraction books and we practised takeaways on our mini whiteboards too.

Primary 2, in Language we learned about when and how to use Question Marks and in Numeracy we did more work on Place Value and 2D shapes.  In Place Value we had a great conversation about representing the number 23 in cubes.  We discussed whether two cubes beside three cubes was 23.  We then explored how to represent 23 properly with cubes and began to understand the true value of 2 = 20.

Also, in Language, we started to learn our Days of the Week in French as well as overlearning these in English and our Months of the Year in English too.

We learned lots more about Chinese New Year and the ancient blue monster Nian who was scared of the colour red, fire, noise and bright lights – and that this is the reason why the Chinese use all of these at Chinese New Year e.g. firecrackers and loud drums.  We also talked about Fortune Cookies and tried out chopsticks.

We have started to learn about Fair Trade and how chocolate is made and we’ve also started reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl for our 5 week topic.

Thank you for your hard work, Primary 2/1.  Have a great weekend.

Class Learning in P2B

Hello everyone,

We have had a super first week back at school following our period of remote learning from home. We have managed to come back to school with a positive attitude and with a hunger to learn. This week we have shown resilience to come back to school and get back into a routine, even with lots of changes happening on a daily basis.

Take a look at what we have been learning this week:

Literacy: We are learning to know what a question is and how to form our own questions.

We created our own questions about ourselves for our learning partner to try and answer. This was a great activity which we enjoyed. We got to learn lots about our friends.

Maths: We are learning how to recognise and describe 2D shapes.

This week Miss Walkingshaw set us a challenge to look for everyday 2D shapes in outside in the playground. We did a great job of this!

Modern Languages: We are learning to know the days of the week in French.

Ms Livingstone took us for French this week. We enjoyed learning more new language in French following on from all of our hard work on Seesaw.

Technology: We are learning how to create a character from a novel.

Mrs Martin took us for Technology this week. We enjoyed learning how to create a character using our imagination. We focused on the main character from our new topic: Willie Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Here are some of our amazing drawings:

What a super first week back! Have a great weekend.

P4/3 Remote Learning

This week we have been continuing to learn to write a discussion text.  This week we wrote a text about ‘Should animals be kept in zoos?’ We planned our work by writing key words under the headings ‘for’ and ‘against’ and then used these notes to write our full discussion text.  We have also been learning about homophones and using the correct spelling of there, their and they’re in sentences.  We have been learning to predict what might happen next in a passage.

In Maths this week we have been learning about measure by using our feet and hand spans to work out the length of different things.  We have also worked on capacity and weight.

In Health this week we were learning about responsibility and our abilities.

This week we have been researching who Boudicca was and why she was important to the Celts.

This week in P4

What a fabulous week again P4! You have all worked so hard with your learning either in school or at home. We have looked at writing a discussion text and thinking about our arguments for and against a topic question; measuring in maths including measuring length, capacity and mass as well as practising our times tables and looking at our responsibilities in our health activities. We worked on a project all about Boudicca this week to learn more about her.

Here are some examples of our work:

You have had a great week everyone and I look forward to seeing what we can do next week!  Have a lovely weekend!

Fairtrade Fortnight P7/6 and P7

We have linked all our Literacy tasks this week to celebrating Fairtrade Fortnight. We consolidated any previous learning we had surrounding Fairtrade by looking at a reading comprehension on Ethical Trading. This also allowed us to embed our knowledge of different question types, something we had looked at previously. We then completed a research task where the classes had to choose how they would display their findings. We were so impressed receiving News Reports, Audio Clips, PowerPoints, Leaflets and Posters!

On Wednesday we watched a clip called Tanya’s Journey which followed  a girl from the UK as she travelled to visit Fairtrade Farmers abroad. We used this opportunity to introduce the idea of a recount and the features we would expect the class to use. This task involved a range of outcomes ranging from listening skills, note taking, summarising and creating a new text. Using a map of the world the children also looked how Fairtrade stretches across the globe and what factors relating to the landscape influence which products grow where. Finally, on Friday we are going to have a debate! We gave the classes some statements on Fairtrade and asked them, using their previous learning on expositions to decide which side of the argument they would support or oppose. We are looking forward to a heated debate!!

Alongside all our Fairtrade work we have also been looking at multiples and prime numbers in Maths and continued with our tasks set by Mrs Martin in Art and Mr Millar in P.E, P7 you must be exhausted! Thank you again for all your hard work this week.
