This week in P4!

This week in P4 we have been busy working on our genre of writing this term – Explanation texts. We can talk about the features of this text and what these should look like. We have continued to work on using money and discussed budgeting this week so we could see how much things cost.  We enjoyed learning about different pets in French and playing Lotto! We looked closely at online safety and discussed the important need for a strong password as well. Great learning this week from all! Well done P4!

National Numeracy Day- Maths Trail

Maths looked a little different in P7 last week. As part of National Numeracy Day we looked  some STEAM clips which demonstrated how Maths is so important in the World of Work. We heard from Scientists, Data Analysts, Builders, Bankers, Chefs and Engineers. Who knew Maths would touch upon so many different career paths! We then made our  Numeracy lesson a little more active by going outside and starting a Maths Trail. It got very competitive as each group used their mental maths strategies to solve each problem. To finish off the week the class came up with some amazing designs crossing over curricular outcomes with both  Art and Technology.

This week in P4!

This week in P4 we have taken part in lots of different numeracy activities as part of National Numeracy Day on Wednesday. We watched videos of people explaining how they use numbers and maths in their job. We used our maths skills to complete a maths trail in the playground and we made some art using maths as well. It was a bit tricky to start with but we kept going and enjoyed it! We have continued to look at writing explanation texts and have looked in detail at fact and opinion this week. We have also continued looking at lessons where we use our learner agency and choose how we will share our learning.

Primary 1

It has been another busy week in Primary 1.

On Wednesday it was Numeracy Day and we all had a great time following a numeracy trail in our playground.  We have continued to learn about money, recognising coins and counting amounts.

We continue to practise writing sentences, this week about bees, bugs or going to the park.  We start our sentences with a capital letter, leave finger spaces and end with a full stop.

We are also learning about our senses and how we use them to learn about the world around us.

Next week, being a short week, and because unfortunately lots of books have not yet been returned, reading books will not be sent home.

Homework will again be posted on Seesaw, on Tuesday after school.

Have a lovely long weekend!

Colin or Cuthbert? Expositions- P6

We have certainly been on a journey in P6 and the question that started it all…who is in the right, Colin on Cuthbert? We used a topical news story about one supermarket suing another supermarket to explore our spoken and written expositions – starting with some fact finding, moving onto debates and then progressing to some persuasive writing. Some pupils challenged themselves and applied their learning to digital platforms.

This week in P4!

This week has been super busy with lots going on in P4.  We have been working on our new genre of writing and learning about Explanation Texts.  We have worked on division and angles this week and enjoyed learning something new in division.  We have continued to find out about how land is used around the country and what this might have looked like in older settlements.  We learned about the NSPCC and discussed how important it is to have a trusted adult to speak to if we are worried about something.  We took part in some class presentations on what job we would like to have when we grow up and they were amazing! We had class talks, PowerPoint presentations and even some videos, great job P4!

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Cameron

P7 Learner Agency

Following on from the success of our first Learner Agency task where the class  planned, evaluated and took forward our Road Safety Assembly that we shared with the whole school P7 decided to instigate another active task. We discussed what Learner Agency meant to them and they came up with words such as choice, empowered, responsible, active and independent. These are all key values of Learner Agency.

Learner Agency is more personalized learning. It empowers the children to influence their own path. By encouraging P7 to take initiative, they enhance their  ability to take control, increase motivation, and ensure they  respond to their own activities.  They develop the ability to organise themselves, employ strategies that help them to become  effective learners and how most importantly to take their learning forward. These are all skills that they  will need to develop  as they make the transition to S1.

Or current context is Charities and Communities and the class decided to use this as the basis for their Learner Agency activity. We briefly discussed possible Learning Outcomes and within their groups they created their own  Success Criteria. Each group has been allocated a display space and will present their learning here as well as using other media to share their creations! I have already witnessed ICT, Drama and Art and I cannot wait to see each groups final presentations….Watch this Space!
