Yesterday, P2A and P2B went on a Scavenger hunt around East Calder. Their challenge was to find letters on our stroll and use these to make a word. We had great fun and discovered that the word was ‘New Year 2022’.
Welcome Back Primary 1!
We hope all our families had a lovely break. Primary 1 have quickly settled back to our class rules and routines and appear to be taking changes in their stride!
In Numeracy this week we have been revising shape and addition, and in Literacy learning two new sounds ‘j’ and ‘z’.
Next week is Scots Week and we’re looking forward to lots of stories and activities in Scots! We’ll also begin to send home reading bags with books to practise reading. If your child’s black book bag is still at home please send in on Monday, many thanks. Arriving home on Monday will be two Scots poems. Please help your child select one and learn it. We’ll also practise at school and will hear all children say their poem on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th of January. This will also be posted on Seesaw.
Many thanks
Mrs Forbes & Mrs Murdoch
Welcome back from The Hive
The children in The Hive have settled into the new year and new term very quickly. We started our workstation tasks this week and have been very productive. We now go to the Library and Literacy room daily to pick our own reading books. We take them back to the Hive, read them at our Workstations then do a linked Writing task. We have rewritten our fiction books and written facts about our non-fiction books.
In Maths we have been learning about fractions. We now know what halves and quarters means, and some of us went on to look at thirds and sixths!
This week in P4
We have had a great time being back in school after the holiday and are fully back to our learning. We have been busy updating our art gallery wall with a variety of art types. We have looked at a variety of artists and tried to recreate our own version of their famous artworks. This has been a topic that we have loved doing in P4!
In Numeracy, we have continued to look at multiplication and division and in maths this week we have started working on Venn diagrams as part of data handling.
Primary 1
Primary 1 had a very exciting end to the term. We have listened to lots of Christmas stories this week and engaged with different craft activities related to them.
On Tuesday it was our party in the hall and it was great fun!
Mrs Murdoch and Mrs Forbes would like to thank you very much for your kind gifts.
Happy holidays to everyone!

PJ and Movie Day in P6
Primary 6a settled down after break today to watch our festive movie ‘Nativity 2-Danger in the Manger’-this came out top in our class vote. Everyone looked so cosy and relaxed in their jammies, onesies and Xmas jumpers and we especially enjoyed the fact that this was set in a school, there were some really funny moments!

WW2 Context P7B
As we come to the end of our WW2 context in 7B I would just like to say a big thank you to the members of the class who brought in their precious WW2 family artefacts. It was great for the class to see and handle these items as it really added a personal touch, allowing the class to see how war impacted families throughout Scotland.
