P1C Innovation Hub

P1C enjoyed their skills hub. We learned about percussion instruments through a listening game. Then we made shakers from recycled materials and rice.  We listened to a piece of music shaking our shakers to the beat.

We had a discussion about critical thinking and creativity skills and everyone was able to identify when they had used them.

P6 Leading their own Learning

This week we have continued to increase opportunities for members of the class to lead their own learning and contribute to school improvement. We already involve pupils more in curriculum design by encouraging them to use Pupil Voice when choosing an IDL concept and by offering the choice in what format they display many elements of their work.
We empowered the class to participate in their own learning and sharing particular skillsets with their peers. We had amazing lessons on QR codes, Adobe, Tamil and Chess! As you can see a wide range of subject matter and we still have Illustration, Spanish and Swedish to come. Fantastic P6, so proud of the confidence, audience awareness and knowledge you shared.

Skills Hubs Week 1- Self Management

In our first self management skills hub the ‘Pet Care’ group were learning all about looking after a horse. They were visited by Cid the Shetland pony. The hub group started by discussing his anatomy and how each part of his body was used to communicate and how we take care of his needs. The children then looked at grooming him and tools for keeping him happy and healthy. We discussed his diet and looked at what food he eats in a day and how eat part of his diet supports his wellbeing. We discussed exercise and looked at tack used for riding and how it worked. Finally the children got to try leading him and using their body and voice to give him instructions.

P3A Hubs Week 1

We were working on Meta Skill of INNOVATION. We had to use our creativity to come up with a new wild animal, thinking about how it moved, where it lived, how and what it ate and how it defended itself. We got to choose if we worked on it individually, in a pair or in a small group (and for once we got to choose out partners!). Once we had drawn and annotated our creature we then used any resource in the classroom to build it. Lots of us used Lego while others tried making it from card. We then recorded ourselves or took a picture, to be added to our Seesaw accounts, explaining how our creature moved, where it lived, how and what it ate and how it defended itself. Next week we will use our creature in our story writing. A great fun filled afternoon!

Congratulations!

On the 2nd March this dynamic duo entered their first competition at Meadowbank Stadium in Edinburgh. They came second in both Cheer and Hip Hop! They both received a medal and have another competition in May. Well done ladies!!

P3A Learning

This term we are working on our division. We learned a new strategy called Bar Modelling. We then worked with a random partner to show our knowledge. This will also help us work out fractions of a number.

We were asked to let the architects know what we thought about different aspects of our new school building. We worked together to discuss each questions and then used the QR codes to record our thoughts.

P3A Learning

This week we have been completing lots of work inspired by the story Ruby’s Worry.  It will be used for a West Lothian Council Creativity in Literacy Competition.  Please see Sway to find out about our learning.

Victorian Artefacts! P6

Victorian Artefacts in P6

We were fortunate enough to have a visit from West Lothian Museum services this week. Linking with our current Social Studies context we enjoyed an afternoon of Victorian artefacts! The class were allowed to handle a lot of the items and were amazed to see how things have progressed since Victorian times, even though we have the Victorians to thank for some of the amazing inventions that we use today. It was however interesting to see like an abacus we still use concrete materials in Numeracy This was a great springboard for our Victorian context as it led to discussions about Victorian inventions, housing and lifestyle to name but a few. We will be linking this learning to our current Literacy theme of creating a recount, the ability to retell and evaluate an experience. The Museum Service have kindly agreed to attend our Sharing the Learning in April so come along and see if you can identify the purpose of our Victorian artefacts, remember your child is now an expert!
