Learning in P2/1

We have been experimenting with our new loom frames in class. We like to choose the colours and textures of each thread. It’s great for our fine motor skills too.

We’ve been learning about the Coronation and have been listening to facts read by our Reading Buddies. We made coronation bookmarks.

We were also using our creative skills to make fantastic crowns fit for a king!

Primary 4A Gerbils

Primary 4A have been preparing for the arrival of our class gerbils.

We have been doing research in class and using our notes to create Power Points about caring for gerbils. We have been thinking about names for our 2 new gerbils and after creating a list of our favourites we used Microsoft forms to vote for our winning names.

Here are our responses:

The winning names were Salt and Pepper.  We cannot wait to meet Salt and Pepper when they come to school on Tuesday after the long weekend.

P3a Number Talks

This week we have been working on counting back from 100.  We had to share our strategy with the rest of the class.  We then used the strategy to work out lots of different equations.  Next we tried using the same strategy when the number was lower than 100.  We worked out that the same strategy worked.  Lots of problem solving this week!!

P1a News

We’ve had a really busy week in P1a.

In Maths we have been continuing to learn about time and have been reading o’clock and half past times on digital and analogue clocks.

Our new sound this week was ‘ai’ and we made a list of ‘ai’ words, but soon realised that this sound can be written differently e.g bear, whale etc. We also tried to make words that rhyme and used magnets and flip charts to make rhyming word families.

On Wednesday we had our sharing the learning afternoon. Thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to come along. We had a great time trying out all of the senses activities. We had smelling pots to guess the smell, tasting activities to identify sweet, sour, bitter and salty, shakers to make for the sense of hearing, fun glasses to design for sight and lots of different textures to stick onto a huge hand for the sense of touch. It was agreed afterwards that the tasting one was the best!

Red Nose Day 2023

We raised a fantastic total of £315.13 for Red Nose Day on 17th March.

A huge thank you to everyone for your generous donations and for taking part so enthusiastically in ‘wearing red from toes to head’!

Thank you also to the Primary 5 pupils who helped raise awareness of the event around the school, great job!

Compass Directions

This week we have been learning about using a compass and giving directions. We each made a compass and gave directions to our partner to move them around the class. As it was such a nice day we took our learning outside and directed our partner around the playground. We had to make sure to we used the correct vocabulary.
