P3A Learning

This term we have moved on the learn about writing Explanations. We started off looking at an Explanation titled Why a Goalkeeper’s Job is Important. We learned about the sections of the writing Title, Identifying Statement, Explanation Sequence & Summary Statement. We then looked at the text and highlighted the nouns. After that we spoke about present tense verbs and highlighted them. We found this quite hard so will continue to work on them this term.

We have started learning to create pictograms. We started by drawing a small picture of ourselves making sure to show our hair colour. We then added our pictures to the graph on the board. By doing this it was easy to see what colour of hair most of the class had. We then answered questions about the information shown by the graph. We then did the same with eye colour. We also learned that a graph needs a title and both of the axis need to be labeled. Mrs Spence is really missing her square board that she had in the old school!!

Primary 1

When celebrating Earth Day recently, the pupils discussed how they could look after our planet. Some suggestions included turning off water, switching off lights, not dropping litter and not wasting food. They watched short films all about recycling and listened to the ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ song. This all linked with our previous Eco learning.

To celebrate, they made Earth Day hats and created seed bombs which they planted in our P1a flower bed. They talked about what our seeds needed to help them grow – light, water, air and warmth. Hopefully there will be a colourful display in the months ahead  and a chance to attract pollinators and  minibeasts – our new IDL theme.

Celebrating success – Sports in P7

With our new ‘Sports’ conext, it seems fitting to post about our success across a variety of sports in Primary 7. Here are some of our P7 learners celebrating some amazing achievements in swimming, motocross, ballet, skiing and dance. The pupils chose to learn about Sports as our final context this term; we are researching sporting history, equipment, how sports have evolved and gained popularity. All of us are working on a personal project this term and we can’t wait to share our learning when we complete them. Some  pupils  have  already  brought  in some  of  their  sporting  equipment  to  share!

Democracy P6

As part of our Social Studies context P6 have been investigating the features of an election and the work of our representatives at both a local and national level. They are developing their understanding of how a democracy works and are discussing what the rights and responsibilities of citizens in Scotland are. To assist us with our learning we have been fortunate enough to have a visit from the Scottish Parliament this week with the UK Parliament visiting us in May. We had our own manifestos, elections and  of course we had a speaker and Presiding Officer too so everyone came to order!

P3A Hubs Week 2

This we we were working on the Meta Skill Social Intelligence. This meant we were communicating, collaborating and leading. We listened to the story Jack and the Beanstalk and thought about the characters and main points. We discussed how the characters would act, what they say and talked about how the story would be better with sound effects. We then split into smaller groups, each with a different character or main point noise to make. We worked together to think how best to create the sounds required. We then came back together and went through the story this time adding in our own sound effects. We had lots of tapping on tables for characters walking or running and the Giant’s footsteps made with slaps on the floor. We had some really good hens clucking around and the harp was made by someone hitting their water bottle. Our Giant’s voice was very good when he bellowed ‘Fee, fi fo, fum’. We had good fun collaborating together to create all these sound effects and it all came together to make the story come to life for us.
