P4M

P4M have been learning about magnets and forces. We did an experiment to discover what materials and objects magnets were attracted to in the classroom.

Sharing Learning in Primary 5

A huge thank you to all of the parents, carers, friends and relatives who came along to Primary 5’s Sharing the Learning afternoon today. It was great to see such a big turnout, especially on a dark and rainy afternoon! We shared a variety of activities, including making nets of 3D shapes, assembling a skeleton, Powerpoint research presentations and dressing up as Burke and Hare, to name but a few…The children had a great afternoon and Miss Jamieson and Mrs Campbell have enjoyed reading all of the lovely positive comments you wrote – thanks once again for coming.

P1 Assembly and Stay & Play

A reminder that all our primary 1 children will be presenting their assembly on Friday June 7th at 9:15 a.m. in the dining hall.  Please access via the dining room door in the quad playground.

After our assembly you are invited to join us for a ‘free flow’ session, where you can go with your child to the P1 classroom of their choice to play and learn!  We will be tidying up at 10:30 in time to say goodbye and then have our morning break.

Many thanks.

Primary 5 Trip to Surgeon’s Hall

Yesterday we had a fantastic day out in Edinburgh. We loved exploring Surgeon’s Hall and realising how surgery has changed over the past 500 years. We also liked seeing how illnesses can make the inside of your body look different.

We’re excited to see our friends and family tomorrow afternoon to share more of this with you!

Visit to Primary 1

While Primary 1 children were out on their trip last week, we had a last minute opportunity to take some pre-school children up to the primary 1 class for a visit.  They enjoyed playing in the classroom and listening to a story being read by Mrs Donnelly.

The transition for pre-school children will be happening in the next few weeks.  Please check the parents board in the cloakroom for more details.

for more details.

P7/6C Homework

Primary 7/6C have been working on an Island project as part of their homework this term. In week 1 they designed their own Island with either a map or model showing key landmarks and features of the island. Some children even used computer software to design their 3D Island while others completed detailed drawings with a description and a key.  Here are some of the finished Islands:

Week 2 asked pupils to complete a piece of imaginative writing explaining how their character arrived on the Island! We enjoyed sharing these stories and diary entries with the class demonstrating their use of descriptive and emotive language.

After School Clubs

Our After School Clubs for Term 4 begin this week for 4 weeks. If your child has been offered a place in a club they were given a slip last week. Please ensure all P5-7 children attending clubs have returned the permission slip before their club begins.

Term 4 clubs are as follows:

  • Monday Cheerleading (P6/7) and Clay (P2/3)
  • Wednesday Rugby (P4/5)
  • Thursday Creative Literacy (P1)

If for any reason your child cannot attend a club please inform their class teacher or school office.

P1 Parent Information Evening

Primary 1 Information Meeting for Parents/Carers

We are looking forward to welcoming our pre-school parents/carers to our school on Tuesday 28th May at 6.00pm. We are delighted that your child will be starting Primary 1 at East Calder Primary in August. We hope that our Information Evening will provide you with all the information you require and that any questions you have will be answered.

Our Information Evening will begin with a presentation which will outline the arrangements for your child starting Primary 1 in August. It will also give you some practical ideas about how you can help your child get ready for the transition to school. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity for parents/carers to visit the P1 classrooms and meet the Primary 1 teachers. For anyone who would like it, there will also be an opportunity to have a tour of the school.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening!
