Primary 7/6L will be selling poppies in school as of Monday and will visit classes. The suggested donation is £1.00 per poppy to support the Scottish Poppy Appeal. Thank you.
Some of our Primary 6 and 7 pupils have been learning about Netball from Mr Millar on a Monday and Wednesday during their lunch break. Today after school the newly formed netball team played against other West Lothian schools in their first matches in the netball festival.
All children played very well and enjoyed the experience.
Well done everyone!
Please find attached a copy of our Newsletter for November. This newsletter includes all our school dates up until the end of this term. A copy of this is also on our school app, our website and has been sent home via groupcall email. If you haven’t received an email update please contact the school office to update your email address.
Many thanks
Two of our P7 pupils made some posters at home to advertise our Halloween Discos. These are now displayed in our school.
We are looking forward to seeing many of our pupils tonight for the Halloween Discos. Thanks to our parents from our Parent Staff Council for organising this fundraising event for the pupils of East Calder Primary School.
Please remember that we ask that children do not wear masks or bring props/weapons with them to the discos.
Thank you 🙂
I was very impressed by the kindness, creativity and artistic skill of two busy girls in the playground this morning before the start of the school day. Both girls (P3 and P4) worked together to make patterns and jewellery designs using stones from our playground.
What a great start to the day girls!
This week Primary 1 went to the first Hub meeting. At the meetings each Hub decided what they wanted to learn about and do this school year. In the Literacy Hub everyone was very excited to have a whole school competition!
In our phonics learning we are almost finished the second group of Jolly Phonics sounds, look out for the information sheet coming home next week.
We have been learning about autumn. In the red class we have a growing collection of seeds and have been talking about trees and how plants grow.
We hope all the beans that went home before the holidays are flourishing!
P7S have had a fantastic week back after the October holiday. We have been working on a class writing project – we will reveal all soon; have been completing our work on shape and symmetry from last term by challenging ourselves using some tricky symmetry patterns; we have been developing our tennis skills in P.E with Mr Millar and Miss Morrison has been teaching us about emergency first aid (we hope we don’t need to use it).
We have a busy term ahead, keep an eye on the blog for our updates.

Primary 5 have started their new topic which is all about the Titanic. We are going to give you some information about what we have been learning in class so far.
We created a mind map which detailed where, when, why, who and what happened.
Where:
When:
Why:
Who:
There were many people held accountable for this disaster.

Well done to P5B for remembering all this information!
We are participating in ‘Look for a book Scotland’ initiative. Children’s books are hidden around East Calder and other villages in Scotland. We were lucky to hear about this from a family at our nursery. We searched locally and found some! They are hidden for children to find, read, keep them for as long as they like and then hide them again for someone else to find!
Add a photo of the find and post on the ‘Look for a book Scotland’ Facebook site.
This initiative is to inspire and encourage children to read!
We are planning to have a book day in the Nursery soon, where you can sponsor books for hiding in our community for other children to find. Look out for more information coming soon!
