Festive Fun in the Nursery

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas….

Our nursery children and staff have been busy making the nursery look very festive. The children have been making decorations for their Christmas tree in nursery and enjoyed helping to decorate the tree. Lots of different items have also been made to sell at the Christmas Fayre this Saturday. Well done everyone – great effort 🙂

NURSERY – SCHOOL FAIR

Reminder:    Christmas Fayre will be held this Saturday (14th December) 10am-1pm in the Dinner Hall of our School.

The Nursery children have had a little enterprise going over the past few weeks and have been working hard to make beautiful tree decorations and lot’s of other goodies to sell.

Please support the Nursery and School by coming along and enjoying a festive filled morning!

Home baking is required for our baking stall, please hand any donations to the school or nursery on Friday 13th.  Many thanks.

Christmas in P5B

P5B haven’t just been working hard in math, literacy and their topic work…they have been busy making a craft to sell at the Christmas Fayre on Saturday! We are all really excited to show you what we have made. We still need to think of a price and we are going to design some eye catching posters to advertise our product!

Come along on Saturday 14th December from 10am-1pm to join in the Chrtismtas fun!

In maths we have been focusing on fractions. We have looked at fractions of shapes, equivalent fractions and simplifying fractions.

In P.E have been learning a few different Scottish Ceilidh dances, which has been very enjoyable.

In RME we have been learning about Christianity as it is important to learn about other religions; their beliefs and celebrations. We have looked at key Christian beliefs such as the Creation Story, the Ten Commandments and now the Christmas story (The Birth of Jesus).

Christmas Feeling in P7s

Pupils in P7S enjoyed their Christmas lunch today! We were signing along to the music and some of us even chose to sing karaoke and tell jokes using the school microphone.

Afterwards we enjoyed making Christmas crafts in class while listening to music. We are having a lovely afternoon in class!

P5/4C Titanic Home-School Challenge

As part of the Titanic IDL, P5/4C were challenged to create a 3D model of a 1st, 2nd or 3rd class cabin from the ill-fated ship. Many pupils rose to the challenge with great enthusiasm and have shown some fantastic creativity and inventiveness in their designs.

Thank you to everyone (and their little helpers at home!) who took up the challenge – your cabins look amazing!

Drama in P5B

We have enjoyed doing drama with P5/4C and coming up with scenes based on our class novels and our topic which is all about the Titanic.

We have been able to experience working with different groups of people. We have also been experimenting with using different voices and movements to portray a character.

Today, we had to create a performance based on a scene from the book “The Titanic Detective Agency”. We just finished the novel today and we all loved it!

Through drama, we have been learning how to work collaboratively. As well as this, we focused on a number of listening skills and took part in some games to demonstrate the importance of listening. It’s been a busy week in P5B!

Remember to wear your Christmas pyjamas to school tomorrow!

P3R Sharing the Learning

Thank you so much to all our family and friends that  came along to our sharing the learning this afternoon.

After listening to ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ by Ronda and David Armitage this term, we have been thinking about the world of work.

We have been listening this week to class talks about the different jobs that we would like to do when we are older.

In Science we have been finding out about saving energy.

We practiced our talking and listening skills by discussing how we could save energy and also about the different skills people need to do jobs.

We have made fantastic models of lighthouses and Mr and Mrs Grinling’s cottage.

We used our reading skills to help us identify different kinds of seagulls.

In Maths we have been working on money.

We had to create a delicious concoction for Mr Grinling’s lunch, write a shopping list and work out the cost of his lunch.

A great afternoon P3R, demonstrating  your skills to others!

Well done!

A busy day in P7!

Primary 7S pupils had a very busy day today!

Some of us went along to West Calder High School to learn how to make a spatula With Dr. Cherry as part of our transition, we had great fun although felt a bit apprehensive walking into the high school as we could see older pupils in their classrooms.

We were all learning to write a balanced argument in class and chose our subject area ensuring we were following the success criteria of writing in the third person, creating an introduction and making sure we had paragraphs detailing the pros and cons before concluding our work with our own opinion. We enjoyed including some research into our work by using ICT to enhance our knowledge.

The fire service were back in to see us this afternoon and worked with some pupils in our class to teach emergency first aid skills. All P7 pupils in our school have now had emergency first aid training so they will be prepared in any emergency situation.

Well done for a great day today P7, I am looking forward to what tomorrow brings. Remember you can wear your Christmas PJs to raise money for the charity Save the Children.
