Primary 1 – S.S.P.C.A. Visit
When the S.S.P.C.A. visited our school this week they brought a special visitor to Primary 1, a very ‘Happy Hamster’! It wasn’t a real hamster but we did learn lots.
We were learning about being responsible. We found out about all the things hamsters need and how we should look after them. We talked about how we needed to be quiet and gentle and have a good routine to look after pets.
Primary 1 – Measure
Primary 1 have been carrying out lots of measuring in and around class.
We measured with giant sized hands and feet. After our investigations we compared sizes and we realised that these gave us different answers. We know now why we use centimetres and metres to measure.
We then measured how tall we are!
P2M and P2W Author/Illustrator Visit
Last Thursday 5th March 2020 was World Book Day where we were lucky enough to have a special visitor join us during Literacy time. Kate McLelland, local author and illustrator shared her different novels with us and taught us some of her amazing drawing techniques.
We enjoyed learning all about how novels are made and how hard everyone involved has to work to make sure it is successful.

P7/6L SSPCA Visit
This afternoon P7/6L were visited by Claire from the SSPCA. We watched a film all about the important work carried out by the SSPCA in Scotland. The SSPCA is the only animal charity who will respond to calls regarding any type of animal (domestic, wild or farm animal). We spent time learning about different animals and were fascinated by some of the facts. For example, did you know a cow can walk up a set of stairs but cannot come down? After learning facts we challenged a partner to recall them to win points. Finally we learnt about animal emotions and how our actions impact them. We used coding skills to program a story for a robot using an app on a tablet. We could control the noises, words and pictures on the screen and also movements of our animal in response to a different scenario.

P2M Science with Mrs Beattie
We look forward to Science with Mrs Beattie every Tuesday and this term, we have been learning about materials. One of our favourite learning activities was when Mrs Beattie asked us to use different materials to build a bridge. We had to work collaboratively to decide which materials worked best and why. We used what we know about the properties of different materials to make decisions in our groups. Mrs Beattie was very impressed with the learning conversations that were taking place. We were proud to use all the collaborative skills we have learned in class to work as a team. We listened well to each other’s ideas and we made sure everyone took part in the challenge.
