Learning in P1

We’ve been learning a new sound ‘ie’ this week and have been reading and building words with the ‘ie’ sound in them.

We’ve also been learning about subtraction and have been ‘taking away one’ from a group.

We’ve been listening to lots of stories and some of us have even been counting to 10 in French!

The teachers are really looking forward to seeing everyone in school on Monday.  Have a lovely weekend.

Learning in Primary 1

Well done P1, you have worked really well this week.  It’s great to see you in school and on SeeSaw, even in our assembly this week.  Thank you for your photos, videos, recordings and hard work.

This week we have continued to learn to tell the time on analogue and digital clocks.  We were practising our number bonds to 10 and have been counting and ordering numbers to 20.

Our literacy work included a new sound ‘oo’, learning to recognise tricky/common words and using our sounds and blending to build and write words.

It was national storytelling week and we listened to lots of stories and drew or wrote a response.

After all that it was great to learn some relaxation and calm breathing exercises.

Have a great weekend!

Learning in P1

Hello everyone.

The boys and girls have been very busy this week.  We’ve been learning about time.  We have been ordering the months of the year, the days of the week and have been learning to tell the time ‘o’clock’ on our analogue clocks.

Our new sound this week was ‘wh’ and we’ve been learning to read cvc words.

We’ve been using our listening skills to listen to stories and have also been discussing what foods are healthy and unhealthy.

We hope you have a great weekend!

Primary 1

Good morning Primary 1.

Thank you for all your hard work in school and on SeeSaw.  Your models, pictures and poems for Scots Week have been super.

This week we have continued our phonics work,  learning the new sound ‘th’ and practising ‘sh’ and ‘ch’.  We have been learning number bonds to 5 and 10.  We also measured using footsteps and blocks.

Have a super weekend.

Whole School ‘Nativity Assembly’

This morning we held our usual virtual Assembly on TEAMS, however today’s assembly was very different as it was our first Nativity Assembly which was led by the pupils of East Calder Primary School. The Christmas Story was told by pupils from every class and we think that our P1-7 pupils did a fantastic job! You all learned your parts so well and spoke clearly and confidently – great job everyone!!!

Lockdown Painted Stones

A massive ‘THANK YOU’ to our secret helpers who came in to the school playground last Friday to cement down the beautiful painted stones which our pupils and their families did during Lockdown.  We were delighted to see the finished result and are sure that you will agree that they have done a fantastic job. On behalf of everyone at East Calder Primary School THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Your help is much appreciated 🙂

Here are some of the photos of our COVID Snake which can be found in the P1-2 playground.

P6 – Learners Leading Learning

I was delighted to receive this message by email today from our P6 class. Our school are working on developing reading skills and we have purchased some puppets to help the younger pupils understand the skills we are learning about. Our pupils in P6 have come up with the great idea of creating videos to help introduce the younger pupils to the skills they are learning about and using in their reading. I’m looking forward to seeing how the videos turn out! Well done P6 for a great idea – another example of our young learners leading learning in ECPS 🙂
