Primary 1 Music

On Monday we had an exciting and active music session with Fischy Music.  We danced and sang to some familiar and some new songs. Primary 1 had a great time!

In class we were busy preparing for the Fayre at Tots Spot on Saturday. We have practised our measuring to make reindeer food to sell at the fayre.

P1 Book Week

We’ve had lots of fun this week during Book Week. We read about Arlo , the lion who couldn’t sleep, and made our own Arlos with a song that helps us to sleep too. We looked at a non-fiction book and made our own woodland animals book for our class library. The book ‘Inch and Grub’ explored friendships and showed us what was important. We thought about what made a good friend and put our ideas on friendship flowers. We also chose a book and used a scene to make a window display.

Our week ended with Children In Need Day. Many thanks for your kind donations.

P7 Buddies

It was great to see P7 getting to know their buddies this week. Every P1 took a letter away with them that was written by their P7 buddy  explaining how they hope they can help them settle into school life. On Wednesday P7 met their buddies and participated in a range of activities from reading and drawing to sorting activities. On a rota basis the P7’s have also been helping in the playground and lunchtime in the dinner hall. It has been fantastic to see such a nurturing attitude.

Primary 1

Primary 1 has had a really fun week.

We have watched an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ panto, tried to beat the teacher in lots of different activities and played ‘Would I Lie to You’.

We wish you a lovely summer and thank you for your gifts and kind notes.

Mrs Hay would like to thank you for your generous gifts and good wishes.  She will miss East Calder children lots!

Learning in P1

This week in P1 we have been very busy learning more about our senses. Some of us have been discussing our favourite meals and what foods are sweet, sour, salty and bitter. And some of us have been talking about our eyesight and making some super glasses!

In maths, we’ve been continuing to skip count in twos.

During RME, we listened to the story of ‘The Prodigal Son’ and then looked at pictures to try to retell the story.

The teachers have been assessing our tricky words in class.

A little reminder to parents- please return book bags every FRIDAY so that books can quarantine and be passed to another group the following Tuesday. Many thanks.

Primary 1

It has been another busy week in Primary 1.

On Wednesday it was Numeracy Day and we all had a great time following a numeracy trail in our playground.  We have continued to learn about money, recognising coins and counting amounts.

We continue to practise writing sentences, this week about bees, bugs or going to the park.  We start our sentences with a capital letter, leave finger spaces and end with a full stop.

We are also learning about our senses and how we use them to learn about the world around us.

Next week, being a short week, and because unfortunately lots of books have not yet been returned, reading books will not be sent home.

Homework will again be posted on Seesaw, on Tuesday after school.

Have a lovely long weekend!

Learning in P1

Hello everyone.  P1 have been very busy this week.  We’re very excited to see if our sunflower seeds will grow.  We’ve been learning about how to plant a seed, what a seed needs to grow and talking about living and non-living things.

In maths, we have been learning to count forwards and backwards to 20,  forming all our numbers correctly and sequencing.

We were excited to bring our first reading books home. (Please ensure all books are returned to school on a Friday morning).

We’re continuing to learn to write with capital letters, full stops and finger spaces for all our sentences.

We’ve enjoyed being out in the sunshine this week and hope you have a lovely weekend.

Primary 1

It’s been another busy week in primary 1.  This week and next we will learn two new sounds ‘oa’ and ‘ng’. The children have been writing the sounds and blending to read words containing the sound. We have been reading in small groups and writing sentences and small stories.  Our targets are to start with a capital letter, use finger spaces and end with a full stop.  We have been adding within 10 and learning about halves and quarters.  We have also been learning about toys in the past.

It was lovely to catch up with you this week.  Have a great weekend.
