Book Week In Primary 1.

The Primary 1 children have been having lots of fun during book week. We have been listening to lots of stories and doing some linked activities.

We decorated our classroom doors to look like the covers of some of our favourite books!

We also enjoyed a visit from one of the authors of Badger the Mystical Mutt books, Laura Jackson.  She even brought along Badger!

We had some lovely stories read to us by Ann from East Calder Library. She read us a story about worries, which helped us to know what to do if we are worried about something. Then she ended with an old favourite, Elmer the Elephant.

The excitement at East Calder just kept on coming, with a visit from the Book Bug!!! He came along to see us all in preparation for our grown ups coming in to school today to be given our Book Bug packs.

P1 Reading Event

We are looking forward to welcoming our parents/carers to our Primary 1 Reading Event on Wednesday 20th November at 9.00am. Please access the hall via the doors from the quad playground. After a short presentation in the hall with Mrs Donnelly, parents/carers will join their child in their classroom to participate with some literacy activities. Primary 1 children will be gifted with their ‘Bookbug Bag’ on Wednesday also.  We hope they enjoy reading the stories at home.

Primary 7/6L Remembrance

As part of our learning about Remembrance Day and the Poppy Primary 7/6L will be working alongside the British Legion today to learn more about the poppy as a symbol for remembrance. We will be working in class to learn more about veterans from our local area before visiting East Calder Cemetery to lay poppies (weather dependent). Please remember we will be selling poppies in school all week this week to support the Scottish Poppy Appeal.

We are looking forward to seeing many of our pupils tonight for the Halloween Discos. Thanks to our parents from our Parent Staff Council for organising this fundraising event for the pupils of East Calder Primary School.

Please remember that we ask that children do not wear masks or bring props/weapons with them to the discos.

Thank you 🙂
