Primary 7S
P7S have had a fantastic week back after the October holiday. We have been working on a class writing project – we will reveal all soon; have been completing our work on shape and symmetry from last term by challenging ourselves using some tricky symmetry patterns; we have been developing our tennis skills in P.E with Mr Millar and Miss Morrison has been teaching us about emergency first aid (we hope we don’t need to use it).
We have a busy term ahead, keep an eye on the blog for our updates.

NURSERY – ‘Look for a book Scotland’ Initiative
We are participating in ‘Look for a book Scotland’ initiative. Children’s books are hidden around East Calder and other villages in Scotland. We were lucky to hear about this from a family at our nursery. We searched locally and found some! They are hidden for children to find, read, keep them for as long as they like and then hide them again for someone else to find!
Add a photo of the find and post on the ‘Look for a book Scotland’ Facebook site.
This initiative is to inspire and encourage children to read!
We are planning to have a book day in the Nursery soon, where you can sponsor books for hiding in our community for other children to find. Look out for more information coming soon!
LEARNING JOURNALS
LEARNING JOURNALS
Have you seen your child’s online learning journal?
Each child has an individual learning journal which you can access online. This is any easy to use and secure online learning journal helping staff and families celebrate their children’s learning and development.a record of your child’s progress and learning.
If you are having difficulty accessing this please speak to Nursery Staff who will be happy to help you.
NURSERY – HALLOWEEN
HALLOWEEN WEEK
From Monday 27th October we will be having a Halloween themed week in Nursery. Your children will have the opportunity to carve pumpkins and dook for apples, and listen to Halloween stories and songs. Your child is very welcome to dress up but can we request no masks please. We are looking forward to lots of Halloween fun!
NURSERY – More Maths
Some more photo’s from our Math’s Week and how we extend and develop play and learning in numeracy and mathematics………..
Counting and recognising the number of objects we put on our art work and display’s.
Measuring and comparing our heights,
“I am 8 leaves tall”, “I am taller”, “I am smaller than …….”
Discovering shapes and numbers in the world around me.
Baking our ‘Gruffalo Crumble’ involved counting and measuring ingredients and learning and discussing the language of time.
NURSERY – Display Boards
Display Boards
Our Nursery team have been busy creating display boards throughout the nursery to keep families informed about their child’s play and learning. Please take the time to have a look and share your child’s learning and magic moments with us and we can display this on the boards.
Living, Growing and Playing
You will find this board displayed in our reception area. If your child has had a ‘magic moment’ at home please share this with us. We are both delighted and proud to hear all about your child’s play and learning and would love to display this on the fruit tree’s. Perhaps if your child has managed to put on their shoes for the first time or zipped up their coat, we would celebrate this by writing it on the fruit and displaying it on their group tree (red group has red fruit, green group has green fruit etc).
We have a new ‘Planning’ display board in the main nursery area beside the smartboard. This display’s your child’s voice. photo’s and work of what we have observed during play and learning. This guides us in extending and developing their learning further by taking the lead from their interests.
The children have been enjoying our trips in the local community such as the park, sheltered housing, sensory garden, library, cafe and shops. These opportunities have helped us to build relationships and make valuable connections. The children have shown enthusiasm and used what they have learned from these meaningful real life experiences to extend their role play, literacy and mathematics skills and health and wellbeing.
We have displayed photo’s and your child’s voice on our ‘The World Around Me’ board in the reception area.
NURSERY – Missing Jumper
Busy Busy in P7S!
Primary 7S have been very busy over the last few weeks! We have been learning about Money with Mr Kellock who has been visiting us from West Calder High School; Mr McInnes visited our classroom and ran a workshop on light photography; we learned about Showing Racism the Red Card with Derek and Chris, then wore red on Friday the 4th October to show our support for reducing racism. We have also been enjoying play in P7 and during Fun Time Friday we had the opportunity to play in our school nurture room, we had great fun! Some of us are feeling very proud to have been given a House Captain or Vice Captain job and we are looking forward to the duties we will undertake in this role.
We have also been celebrating wider achievements in P7S and a few of our classmates have been participating in swimming competitions and Taekwondo championships – have a look at their photographs below.
