Literacy Fun In Primary 2W

This week we have been learning how to use a dictionary. We learnt when we would need to use a dictionary and how to use it correctly. Before we could do this we completed BBC Supermovers Alphabet dance to double check we could remember the letters in the correct order.

Miss Walkingshaw set us a challenge in pairs to see if we could find the real meaning behind words we use a lot during our learning. We had lots of fun taking part in this challenge as we were able to do it with our friends. Some of the words were tricky to find but we showed our resilience and kept on trying!

As you can tell we liked it so much we had to take another photograph to show you our smiling faces!

NURSERY – WELLY WALK

We are planning a welly walk with the children to celebrate and try out our waterproof trousers that the PSA kindly purchased.  We will be doing this during outdoor group time on a wet day when there are lots of puddles.  Rather than ask parents to sponsor the children, we are asking for kind donations to help us raise further funds to buy more waterproof trousers.  A donation tub is in the main foyer beside the registers.  Your donations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Sky Academy P7/6L

On Friday Primary 7/6L visited the Sky Academy studios to film our own news report on a topic we find particularly important to our class. Our class sponsor an orangutan from the WWF and through our science context last term we began researching endangered animals. We created and shared persuasive presentations with our class and also the school and our parents through our class assembly. We worked in 4 teams to research and script part of a report before visiting the studios on Friday. We then finished researching and writing our scripts on ipads to be used as an autocue for our reporters to share in our report. We all had a role within our studio groups. Each studio had a producer, director, editor, camera person, presenter/ reporter and an eye witness or expert to share their knowledge. We reported in detail on the most endangered list, the threats to endangered animals, some species in particular and also what we can do to help. We then watched our completed report in a cinema before taking a tour of the Sky building.

World War 2 Timeline Session P7/6L

On Thursday afternoon P7/6L spent the afternoon working with Alan Hamilton in class to learn more about World War 2. We went through a detailed timeline of the war, beginning with the end of WW1. What was particularly fascinating was looking at a world map clearly showing the Allies, Axis and neutral countries in different colours. This clearly demonstrated the shift in power for the Allied countries throughout the war. We took part in a quiz and also looked at some artifacts from the war including jackets worn by paratroopers on D-day and also coins issued by King George to the families of soldiers lost during the war.

Roman Creations in P2W

Today we had been learning even more information about the Romans. This afternoon we were lucky enough to learn about the Colosseum and had a chance to create our own.

We were set a task to create our own Colosseum using only one material from the list below:

  • Building Blocks
  • Lego
  • Paper
  • Counting Sticks

We have been focusing on teamwork over the past few weeks and we were able to show how good we are at this during the task.

Here is some of our amazing work.

We are very proud of all our hard work!

WW2 Artefact Handling Session P7S

P7S would like to thank Mrs Liddell for visiting us yesterday from West Lothian  Library Services. We had the opportunity to handle a range of artefacts from WW2. We looked at a variety of uniforms and some of us (see embarrassing photographs!) even got the chance to try some on. We heard all about food and clothes rations, did you know you were only allowed 2oz of cheese and butter a week! Mrs Liddell has kindly agreed to join us in March for our Sharing the Learning Session so you will also be able to experience WW2 brought to life! We look forward to welcoming you….watch this space!
