More Literacy in P3/2

In Literacy, we have been working hard on our Bump It Up Wall. We have changed the writing on our wall and we worked together as a class to give feedback to each other. This means the people with their writing on the wall, all know what they are doing well and their next steps.

We love Guided Reading and one of our favourite learning activities to do is independent reading for enjoyment on Epic. We also use Epic at the start of each Guided Reading lesson to practise reading fluently. We lead echo reading with the class in pairs and this really helps us to read a range of texts fluently.

We also get the chance to lead echo reading in our groups and have been working on asking and answering questions. Some of us are working on inferential questions where we have to read between the lines. Some of us are going to be learn dictionary skills to get us ready for clarifying which will will be our Comprehension focus next term.

Active Spelling in P3/2

We are learning the “sh” sound this week and some of us are learning more CVC words. We have learned the “sh” sound before but we are excited to learn some new words with this sound.

We take part in Active Spelling every Monday morning to help us practise reading and writing our words. One of our favourite learning activities is “Musical Words.” We play music and dance to burn off some energy and when the music stops we find a word on our word list to write. Sometimes our words are scattered around the classroom on sticky notes. We work in random partners and choose a word to write. We also have the opportunity to write a sentence. We write on the tables with white board pens which is a fun way to write our words. We share the words we have written too. This is a fun way to be introduced to new words and we told Miss Marra that this game is one of our favourite learning activities.

Article 29: We have the right to develop our talents and abilities.

Primary 1

In our maths this week Primary 1 have been using balance scales. we compared objects to see which was heavy and which was light. we then used cubes to find out how heavy things were. We estimated first and then measured.  Then we used different measures to make reindeer food to sell at the Christmas Fayre.

In Literacy we continue to learn new sounds and blend to read and write words.

Primary 1 had great fun at the pantomime and showed their teamwork skills in a ‘write the room Sleeping Beauty’ task after.

This week in P2

This week in P2 we have been practising making arrays to help us with multiplication. We drew on our tables to help us spread out our dots carefully. We have also been working on our word boost words this week. We read a story and choose 5 key words which we practise throughout the week. We have also been practising our French numbers to 20 using songs and rhymes to help us.

Learning in P2/1

We have been learning about Space and wrote some facts about the moon. P2 wrote information reports and P1 wrote a sentence. We learned that the moon orbits the Earth and reflects the light of the Sun.

We have all been listening to Stick Man by Julia Donaldson this week. ‘I liked our Boost Words’. Alfie

In maths P1 were measuring using blocks, and P2 were measuring in centimetres. ‘I liked measuring the Lego’ Jenson.

The highlight of the week was watching the Christmas Panto Sleeping Beauty. ‘My favourite part was when they asked maths questions-we had to shout them out’ Leonor.

This week in P2

This week we began looking at arrays in multiplication and using them to help count in groups. We made arrays out of play doh to show how to make them. We had a visit from P6 to talk to us about road safety this week as well and we designed posters to show why road safety is so important. We are continuing to learn how to write information reports in literacy with the support of Mrs Robertson. We began our new topic looking at space and thinking about what we wanted to learn about.  We have lots to look forward to over the next few weeks.

P3 Learning

We are continuing our learning about using question marks. This week we worked with random partners to come up with questions about a picture. We wrote them on sticky notes so we could display them and remind ourselves what to do.

In Numeracy we have been learning about Fact families. A fact family is made up of three numbers and can be made up of at least four math facts. For example, if a child knows that 3 + 4 = 7 then they can also deduce that 4 + 3 = 7 and 7 – 4 = 3 and 7 – 3 = 4.

In Literacy we worked on the discussion, “Should children be allowed screen time?”.  We had a great discussion about it and came up with lots of arguments for and against. Ask your child what they think about it.

Book Week P2/1

We’ve had a super time during Book Week. One of our favourite things was the book mark competition.

Congratulations to Leonor who won a certificate from our class!
We were all excited to receive our Bookbug bags in P1 and our Read, Write, Count bags in P2. We loved listening to one of the stories in the library with Mrs Robertson and our families! We were really pleased to share our learning with our families back in our classroom, and especially enjoyed the juice and biscuits!

We wrote book reviews during our writing lesson. Lots of our books got 5 stars.
We designed book covers for our favourite stories and made sure we had a title, author and illustrator written on them.

We were also very lucky to have a secret reader (thanks to Jude’s Mum in P2!) who came to read one of our favourite Julia Donaldson stories ‘Zog’ and ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.

This week in P2

This week has been an amazing week in P2. We have taken part in lots of book week activities such as Drop Everything And Read time, making book covers and bookmarks, creating finger puppets, having a secret reader in our class, watching a live reading session with Julia Donaldson and James Robertson (who translates Julia Donaldsons’ books into Scots language) and also receiving our new Bookbug reading bags.
We were also very lucky to be joined by our family and friends this week for our sharing the learning afternoon where we joined in with lots of other reading activities. Then we also had the chance to visit the book fair this week and read lots of books. It has been a super busy week but it has been brilliant!
