NURSERY – Learning at Home is Fun

A big Hello to all our families, we are hoping that you are all well and keeping safe at home.

Some more idea’s to try with your little ones….

We’re going on a Bear Hunt

So many children in our Nursery know and love this story so why not change it into a game for your daily walks during social distancing. L.1. Moves at different speeds – slowly, steadily and quickly.  Please put a teddy at your window for the local kids to spot whilst out on their walks. It will bring some excitement and happiness at this strange difficult time. You can share the story with your child or access online by clicking hereL.1. Engages with stories and texts in different ways.

There is a West Lothian Facebook page dedicated to this, where you can join and share your photos of your walks. Look it up and share with your friends. Find out more by clicking here.

If you have a printer at home why not print off this certificate to give to your child after your bear hunt. L.1. Celebrates, values and uses achievements to build next steps.

You can find the above certificate here.

You can continue the Bear theme by providing your child with a blanket, dishes and real food so they can invite their bears/cuddly toys to a teddy bears picnic!

L.1. Invents own stories and characters to share with others in play, imaginative and real contexts.

Encourage your child to practise their counting by playing ‘hide and seek’ with their bears/cuddly toys. You could hide their bears around the house or garden and ask your child to count forwards or backwards to a challenging number and then find all the bears.  L.1. Recalls the number sequence forwards and backwards within the range 0-30.

Science – International Space Station

Hello everyone!

One of the tasks you all had on your science grids was to go outside when it was dark and see if you could spot any stars or planets. If you time it well then you can also see the International Space Station flying over your head. I was lucky enough to spot it on Saturday night at around 8:30pm. I managed to take a video to share with you all. See if you can spot it! There are still opportunities for you to spot it yourself too, check the website at spotthestation.nasa.gov to see times of when it will be passing over where you live.

Happy star gazing!

Home Learning 2 updated

We know lots of you have been improving your maths skills on Sumdog and we have set a challenge for each class for the next week.

If you like books and reading try –

Home

It’s great to have someone read a story aloud to you ..(we are missing that with you )……and you can read along with the subtitles. Try sharing a story with your family.

Other things that are help just now are making  sure you are managing to get outside for a bit and keep doing some exercise, and offer to help around the house…that will bring a smile to someone’s face!

Please keep checking the blog for information and we will post again next week.

Take care and stay safe.

NURSERY – Fun and Learning at Home

Good Morning Everyone

Here are some suggested activities to give a try.

Build a den – Build a den indoors using a range of materials e.g. sheets, pegs, chairs, clothes horse, table etc or build outdoors using same resources in garden. You could use your den to have some quiet time in (drawing, reading, listening to music, role playing). If you are out a walk in the woods you could try building a den using sticks and/or tarpaulin sheet. L.I I am Learning how to problem solve.

Read – Read your favourite book and then recall/retell the story while acting it out (everyone can have a role). L.I I am learning how to concentrate and listen. I am learning how to introduce a story into my play.

Dance – Show off your best dance moves to your favourite songs. You could also follow dance routines on just dance which the children love to do in nursery. Here are links to some of the favourites in nursery. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=just+dance+disney, https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=just+dance+for+kids L.I. I am learning ways to be active and improve my wellbeing.

Number chart – Make your own number chart/line using loose parts around the house and garden. L.I I have explored numbers, understanding that they represent quantities, and I can use them to count using 1-1 correspondence.

Remember you can also have a look at https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/wl/snonursery/ for more ideas.

Hope you all have a good day
