Primary 1

It was great to see so many parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles who came to our ‘Sharing the Learning’!

Primary 1 were so excited to share some of their Scots Week activities. We made kilts, a model Nessie (using our push, pull and twist forces), built castles and discussed and ate some Scottish food.  We were super detectives trying to ‘I Spy’ a picture of a Burns Supper.

Shortbread was the favourite food in both classes.

We ended with a ‘Heid, Shooders, Knaps and Taes’ song!

Have a lovely weekend!

Primary 1

Primary 1 really enjoyed end of term activities this week.  We made decorations and placemats for our party.

On Thursday we enjoyed a Movie and our Christmas Party. We played party games, danced and snacked!  We had a special visitor come to our party too.

Mrs Forbes and Mrs Murdoch would like to thank you for our lovely gifts and wish you Happy Holidays!  See you next year!

Primary 1

Primary 1 have had a very exciting week.  As well as continuing to learn new sounds, stretching out words to help us write words and learning and playing with 2D shapes, we had a visit from a local author and performed our Nativity Play!

When the author visited us we listened to 3 stories and had the opportunity to ask lots of questions.

On Thursday we performed our nativity; Baarmy Bethlehem to the whole school. Our first audience! Then today was our show.  We loved being on the stage!

In our maths this week Primary 1 have been using balance scales. we compared objects to see which was heavy and which was light. we then used cubes to find out how heavy things were. We estimated first and then measured.  Then we used different measures to make reindeer food to sell at the Christmas Fayre.

In Literacy we continue to learn new sounds and blend to read and write words.

Primary 1 had great fun at the pantomime and showed their teamwork skills in a ‘write the room Sleeping Beauty’ task after.

Primary 1

This week Primary 1 were very lucky to welcome Miss Ross and Mrs Ogilvie who will be working with us for a further four weeks.

We continue to learn new sounds and have added to Seesaw the second set of sounds; c, k, e, r, h, m, d.  This will be homework next week.  We now know lots of sounds and we are beginning to blend them together to build and read small words.

This week we introduced Word Boost, a programme to increase our vocabulary.  A ‘postcard’ was sent home on Thursday so the children can practise using these boost words.

Please remember to return reading books on a Thursday so they are ready for a different group of children to read on Monday.

Primary 1

This week has been Maths Week Scotland.  Primary 1 did lots of different maths activities inside and outside!  We collected 10 items on a paper plate and when we brought them into the classroom, we sorted them into different groups and within the groups we sorted in size order.

P1a used items they collected in the playground to make different shapes and looked for shapes in the playground.

We all took part in a number hunt, finding different numbers of items and showing this on a 10 frame.

In Literacy we have completed the first set of phonics; s, a, t, i, p & n, and are now learning all about c/k.

It was great to see so many parents at consultations and we hoped you enjoyed looking at all the learning that has taken place since P1 started.

What a great start everyone has made to Primary 1.  We’ve all been learning our school routines and making new friends.

We have started learning our phonics and this week have been practising ‘s’ and ‘a’.  We continue to work with numbers; sequencing, ordering, writing and counting.

We have been learning about the 4 listening skills; looking at the person who is talking, listening to all the words, sitting still and being quiet.  We try to  use this at assembly and love learning new songs.

Primary 1

Primary 1 have had fun during Scots Week.  We have read lots of stories in Scots, enjoyed different activities and loved hearing everyone say their chosen poem.

At the assembly tomorrow P1b are excited to present what they’ve been learning about.  They had great fun doing Heid, Shooders, Knaps and Taes’ and singing ‘Three Craws’.

Primary 1 have also decided what the class role play area should be and are busy making an opticians in P1a and a shop  in P1b.

Please remember to return reading books on a Thursday so they can be read by others the following week.

Primary 1

It has been a very exciting week in school!

We loved the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk and took part in lots of activities in class.  We even built our own beanstalk!

We have been busy practising our Nativity and trying on our costumes too!

Our new sound this week was ‘w’ and we have been learning to copy patterns, play pattern games and have started  making our  own patterns.

On Monday please return all reading books and book bags.  Also please send in clothes as requested for the nativity.

Many thanks

Primary 1

This week Primary 1 have been very busy learning about measure.  We used a balance scale and have been using the words heavier and lighter to describe the objects we weighed.  We then estimated what we thought some classroom items might weigh then recorded how many cubes it took to make the scale balance.  We used measuring cups to make reindeer food to sell tomorrow at the Christmas Fayre.

In Literacy we have been learning the new sound ‘j’.  Some of us have been identifying and writing beginning sounds and others have been writing small words; stretching out the words to write the beginning, ending and middle sound.

We have started going onto the stage to practise our nativity and were very excited when the tickets went home!

We have always been discussing how to stay safe near roads and have learnt Super Cat’s rules; Stop! Look both ways.  Listen.  Think!
