5K Marathon Champ!

Congratulations for running your first 5k marathon. You competed in a race with 18 year olds but still managed to be the 24th girl to cross the line and placed 84th out of a 160 people, amazing! This was some achievement coupled with the fact you raised over £400 for a charity. We are all so proud of you!

As you can see from the images below we have some budding Producers,Editors,Directors,Scriptwriters and there should be an Oscar nominations for our Presenters and Experts! Well done to our fantasic Cameramen/women who filmed the whole experience.

Dancing Superstars! P7B

Congratulations to these 3 dancing stars! On February 27th the girls competed in a  competition in Glasgow. They came a very respectable 4th place and considering they were one of the youngest teams in the Youth category we all think this is an amazing achievement. I have watched their Cheer video and they really did themselves proud. Well done ladies!

P7 Assembly -Fairtrade

Today P7 celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight by sharing their assembly with the whole school.

Fairtrade Fortnight

What is it?

Fairtrade Fortnight this year runs from 21 February to 6 March 2022

For two weeks each year at the end of February and start of March, thousands of individuals, companies and groups across the UK come together to share the stories of the people who grow our food and drinks, mine our gold and who grow the cotton in our clothes, people who are often exploited and underpaid.

Since last Fairtrade Fortnight we have seen the G7 and COP26 take place. Over 33,000 campaigners joined 1.8m Fairtrade farmers and workers in backing the Be Fair With Your Climate Promise challenge to world leaders at the UN COP26 summit.

Well done P7,you certainly made us think about the choices we can make.

Loving the costume!!!!

P7B visit our Fantastic new Library space

After much anticipation P7B visited our new Library  and it was certainly worth the wait. As you can see from the photographs a great time was had by all. An amazing space which will certainly encourage the enjoyment of reading to be embedded across the school. Thanks to Mrs Robertson and the P7 Literacy Team for all your hard work, the results were amazing!

Hag Storm! P7B linking Literacy to our Scots Week activities

Linking our Literacy to Scots Week P7B are reading Hag Storm by Victoria Williamson. The story is based on the life of Robert Burns and one of his most famous and best -loved poems, Tam O’Shanter. We read through Tam O’Shanter and retold the story in our own words using a glossary of Scots words to help us. We also looked for the differences and similarities with the poem and the book. Moving forward we are going to link some of the skills we use in our reciprocal reading such as prediction, summarising and reflection to explore the book further and deepen our understanding of the Writers’ craft.

WW2 Context P7B

As we come to the end of our WW2 context in 7B I would just like to say a big thank you to the members of the class who brought in their precious WW2 family artefacts. It was great for the class to see and handle these items as it really added a personal touch, allowing the class to see how war impacted families throughout Scotland.

Health and Wellbeing P7A/7B

We asked our P7’s what they thought Health and Wellbeing looked like at East Calder Primary. Using the HWB recovery curriculum as a springboard the classes produced individualised posters demonstrating what Health and Wellbeing means to them. Under the headings Recover,Reflect and Re-explore and using the wellbeing indicators, our school rules and our LEARN values they created these child friendly go to reminders. These have been shared with the West Lothian Health and Wellbeing team. I think you will agree they did a great job not only on the artwork but also making relevant and viable links to our Wellbeing Indicators.

West Lothian Museum Services -P7B

Fantastic to welcome Maureen Liddell fromWest Lothian Museum Services to our class today. She shared with us a range of aretefacts and stories relating to our current context of WW2. We learnt about how our country prepared for war, discussing rationning, evacuation and shelters. The class were fortunate enough to handle a range of artefacacts including a gas mask, identity cards, ration coupons and even an ARP warden helmet. This visit links closely to the work we are doing in PM writing at the moment where we are looking closely at the features and layout of a recount.

Outside School Achievements 7B

Congratulations to these 2 very active members of 7B! On Saturday 6th November they both attended a dance show at Howden Park Theatre. They have not participated in one for over 2 years, due to Covid, and said it was fantastic to be back. They had lots of different outfits, telling me all about the sparkles and glitter! There were lots of different types of dancing involved from cheer, jazz,to hiphop and highland. The girls explained that as the curtain lifts your heart begins to beat so quickly but as soon as the music starts you begin dancing and you have the time of your life! Amazing, wish I could of watched you. Sounds fantastic.
