P2M and P2W Author/Illustrator Visit

Last Thursday 5th March 2020 was World Book Day where we were lucky enough to have a special visitor join us during Literacy time. Kate McLelland, local author and illustrator shared her different novels with us and taught us some of her amazing drawing techniques.

We enjoyed learning all about how novels are made and how hard everyone involved has to work to make sure it is successful.

P2W Science Fun with Mrs Beattie

During our Science lessons this term we have been learning about different materials. Mrs Beattie set us a challenge to try and build our very own bridges using different materials.

Each group were given the choice between spaghetti and blue tac or cubes.  By the end of the lesson we were to create our own bridges using our chosen material followed by an explanation as to which method was better and why.

We are looking forward to learning even more about materials over the course of this term!

Literacy Fun In Primary 2W

This week we have been learning how to use a dictionary. We learnt when we would need to use a dictionary and how to use it correctly. Before we could do this we completed BBC Supermovers Alphabet dance to double check we could remember the letters in the correct order.

Miss Walkingshaw set us a challenge in pairs to see if we could find the real meaning behind words we use a lot during our learning. We had lots of fun taking part in this challenge as we were able to do it with our friends. Some of the words were tricky to find but we showed our resilience and kept on trying!

As you can tell we liked it so much we had to take another photograph to show you our smiling faces!

Roman Creations in P2W

Today we had been learning even more information about the Romans. This afternoon we were lucky enough to learn about the Colosseum and had a chance to create our own.

We were set a task to create our own Colosseum using only one material from the list below:

  • Building Blocks
  • Lego
  • Paper
  • Counting Sticks

We have been focusing on teamwork over the past few weeks and we were able to show how good we are at this during the task.

Here is some of our amazing work.

We are very proud of all our hard work!

P2W Sounds of the Week and Money Madness

This week we have been super busy!

We have been learning our new sounds ‘igh’ and ‘y’. Miss Walkingshaw set us challenges this week during our Literacy time to see if we could find our new sounds hidden in a book chosen from our class library. We think we did a great job!

On Monday we always have Money Madness. This is our favourite lesson of the week!

This week we were learning how to add different coins together and coin recognition. We played lots of games with our friends which made learning about money so much fun!

One of our favourite games to play was Money Snap! We were super good at this and some of us even bet Miss Walkingshaw!

Primary 2 Reminder

Parents/Carers,

Could we please remind you of the importance of sending your child’s reading book and homework diary every day. This allows us to do additional tasks with your child to further improve their learning and keep you updated with their progress. Tricky words should also be brought in each week.

Thank you for all your support!

P2W Book Week

This week we took part in Book Week Scotland 2019. We were set many challenges to try and complete during our literacy time.

P2W chose to recreate the front cover of one of our favourite books – Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We worked so hard creating this that it took us one whole week! We are very proud of all the hard work, effort and teamwork that has went into our amazing door creation.

We have all our fingers and toes crossed in the hope that we win the competition on Monday!

Outdoor Learning in Primary 2

In Primary 2M and 2W we have been learning how to subtract. We have been using lots of different methods to help us do this. Yesterday we decided to take our subtraction outdoors and see how we could use the environment to help us show our learning. We had lots of fun using our number skills.

It was a chilly morning so we had to make sure we were wrapped up. We even managed to use natural materials and the weather to help us create our own subtraction sums!

Arghhhhhhhhh!

This term in P2W we are learning all about pirates. Today we were learning about famous pirates and what they did a long, long time ago. Captain Abigail set us a challenge to find out about how to become amazing pirates and we think we have got off to a great start.

We spent time this afternoon creating our own pirate names using our favourite colour and favourite animal. We created some brilliant names that made us giggle!

Next we created our own pirate puppets which we used during our Positive Play time. We had so much fun!
