On Thursday morning Primary 5 had a visit from Natalie and Emma from InStep dance who kindly donated their time to give us a taster session of a hip-hop dance class. Everyone made a huge effort to participate and came up with a very impressive routine after just a short session, a lovely fun way to round off the term. Thank you again to Natalie and Emma for making it such a fun session. IMG_1338

P5 Personal Project
The first of our Personal Projects came in today and we were all very impressed with this pupil’s research on guineapigs. It was beautifully and clearly presented and contained lots of interesting information- there was even a word search and a quiz which we had fun completing. We look forward to seeing more projects as they come in.

P5 Achievement in Motocross
Last weekend Jakson in Primary 5 qualified for the Motocross British Championship, an amazing achievement for such a young rider. We are all incredibly proud of Jakson and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for him as he continues to compete in this exciting sport. Well done, Jakson!

We raised a fantastic total of £315.13 for Red Nose Day on 17th March.
A huge thank you to everyone for your generous donations and for taking part so enthusiastically in ‘wearing red from toes to head’!
Thank you also to the Primary 5 pupils who helped raise awareness of the event around the school, great job!

Red Nose Day 2023
Red Nose Day is almost upon us once more and we are asking pupils to do their bit by ‘Wearing Red From Toes to Head’ this Friday,17th March. Please try to wear your red, (even if it’s just socks!) and bring a donation if you can – all money raised will go directly to help with issues such as mental health, child poverty and homelessness. Thank you from Mrs Campbell and Primary  5
P5 and P3 Reading Buddies
Primary 5 and Primary 3 had a short but productive session together today where we shared texts using different media and platforms. Some pupils shared their allocated texts on Giglets, some used the Storytime Online QR codes to access books and some preferred good old paperbacks!
We are all looking forward to World Book Day next week where we hope to take part in lots more exciting reading activities.
A busy Book Week in P5!
Primary 5 have had a busy week celebrating Book Week Scotland this week. We began by writing reviews of our favourite books and sharing these with the rest of the class. We joined an Authors Live event where we took part in a draw-along session with author and illustrator Emily Mackenzie to recreate her character Granville, who features in ‘There’s Broccoli in my Ice Cream’- great fun! On Thursday we joined a live Giglets session where we heard the story of Tommy Foghorn and had an opportunity to hear from the illustrator and ask him questions. We also enjoyed creating animal-themed book covers for our school competition and received our Queen’s Jubilee commemorative books from Mrs Robertson. We enjoyed stories from two Secret Readers and made bookmarks with our P3 Reading buddies. A fantastic celebration of books and reading!
P5’s Special Visitor
Primary 5 and Mrs Campbell were delighted to welcome Alan Hamilton into school on Thursday afternoon. Alan has previously been a regular visitor to our school, working with P6s and P7s on their World War IDL contexts. He is a mine of information about WW1, WW2 and everything in between!
Alan came to speak to Primary 5 about Remembrance and gave us a real insight into the life of a soldier, from rations and trench foot to horse dung and ‘sweet pea mixture’ (ask your kids!). He brought along his own medals and some interesting artefacts to show us and also very kindly left us copies of his own sketches which he made whilst serving in Iraq.
The pupils were highly engaged in this session and understandably had many questions which Alan did his best to answer!
Primary 5 Rainforests
We had some absolutely amazing responses to our Rainforest Challenge in Primary 5. Pupils were asked to create a 3D model of a rainforest scene, showing the 4 layers and some of the creatures who live there. As you can see, we had some truly amazing creations – so much ingenuity and imagination!
They currently have pride of place outside our classroom and so many people have commented on how good they are- a big thank you to all who took up the challenge, well done on your amazing creativity!
