P3 Learning

This week we recapped the time work we should know from P2 of o’clock, half past & quarter past. We worked in pairs to test each other. Then we challenged each other to try to tell quarter to times. We will continue to work using analogue clocks and start to use digital times next week.

We have just started learning to write a discussion. To do this we need to think about ‘arguments for’ and ‘arguments against’. So far we have completed discussion text for the questions, ‘Should children wear school uniform?’ and, ‘Should we have a class pet?’. Next week we will be thinking about the question, ‘Should children play at school?’.

We have also been learning about using question marks and have been enjoying finding them in our reading books.

Lego Club

A great time was had by all at the first session of Lego Club. We have been very lucky to acquire 10 brand new Lego sets. Pupils worked in their choice of individual, pairs or threes. They used their problem solving, communication and collaboration skills to build the new models. Some chose to free build from the huge box of blocks in the class. Roll on next week when they get the chance to do it all again!

P3 Learning

This week we have been learning about writing questions.  We had to try to write question marks on the table.  They are quite a difficult shape!  Then with our random partner we thought of a question and wrote it on the desk.  We shared our questions and then tried to write two more.  Someone wrote a sentence by mistake but as a class we were able to turn it into a question by changing some of the words.  Again we shared our questions.  As a class we realised that most of the questions began with the same words.  We will continue working on questions next week.

We continued our work on money by completing lots of different activities from recognising coins to giving correct coins to £10.00.

P 3 Learning Times Tables

We have been using arrays to help us learn our times table. As a class we worked on our 2 x table, making arrays with counters, drawing them on our desks and then writing the calculation. Some people were able to do this quickly so moved onto the 5 times table. By the of the week, a small group were able in their 5 times table so after the holidays will start work on the 3 times table. Lots of learning at each child’s own level.

Primary 3 Learning

In Money this we took part in different activities to help us improve our knowledge of coins and how to pay. It has been difficult as nowadays we use less and less actual coins and notes to pay for shopping. Most people pay with cards now but it is still important we learn about money as it is life skills.

The title of our description this week was A Bus. We learned lots of information about buses, used key words on our planning sheet and then wrote our description. This week was our first time in P3 using a self assessment sheet. On it we had to colour to show how we felt we had done on each point. On the whole we did really well, just a few people needing to remember their word logs or finger spaces. Next week we get to choose our own title and what we are going to write a description about.

In art we used our imagination and creativity to cover up a mistake. We were all given pieces of paper that had accidentally been splashed with black paint. Everybody’s was different. We had to think about how best to cover them up. We came up with lots of ideas from a mermaid’s tail to an eyebrow!

Primary 3

Although it has been a short week we have still learned lots. We looked at a picture and had to predict what we thought was happening. Then we wrote sentences about it.

We continued to work with money and started giving each other different amounts. Some people could work with coins to 10 pence while others could give amounts up to £10. We will keep challenging ourselves with our learning.

Last week was International Dot Day. We read the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds. We were then given a black dot sticker to put anywhere on our piece of paper. Then we had to use our imagination to create a picture using the dot. We came up with lots of different ideas. Come look at our Art Board to see some of our creations.

P3 Skills

We have been working hard to focus on our work. We often work in random partnerships so communication is important as is working as a team. We take part part in a Friday Challenge most weeks and have to use our creativity and problem solving skills. We also use lots of different skills when we play. In these pictures you can see use problem solving, focusing, creating, communicating and working as part of a team.

P3 Learning

This week we have been learning to count, trying to use the most efficient strategy.  First we had to estimate the amount of items in the bag and then had to count them. Most of us started counting in ones but Harrison decided it would be quicker to count in two’s. Once he explained his strategy to the class, other groups started counting in different amounts. Maisie, Reuben and Harry counted in 5’s and Mary’s group counted in 10’s. This became much quicker so the class decided it was more efficient to count in bigger numbers.

We also started writing a description. On Thursday we worked on our plan and then today used it to help us write a description of a Sea Turtle (Mrs Spence’s favourite animal). We used our learning about nouns and adjectives when we wrote our sentences.  We discussed our descriptions and spoke about any corrections needed and where we could make our sentences better.

P3 Literacy & Numeracy

We listened to a story and thought of all the positional language we heard. We then worked with a partner to write down all the words we could think of. We watched a short video and discussed where items were in a house using the vocabulary we had learned.

We started learning about writing a description. To do this we read a passage and had to find all the nouns in it. We learned that a noun is a naming word for a people, place or thing. Later in the week we then used the same passage and highlighted all the adjectives. We though of other describing words that could be used.

We have been using concrete materials to help us with our Numeracy. We have lots of different tools in our class to support our learning. We use them to help us solve calculations. This week we were given the problem 24 + 12 and worked with a partner to solve it. We then had to keep adding 12. Some of us saw a pattern to the numbers and managed to work the problem to over 100. They then shared their strategy with the rest of the class.

We are constantly discussing our work with other people but sometimes we need to remember our listening skills. This week we worked in small groups to discuss our emotions. We had to remember to take turns, look at the person who was talking and listen to all their words.
