Congratulations on achieving your yellow belt in your recent grading (skipping 4 belts). A huge achievement.
Well done!
Primary 7/6L would like to invite their parents and carers to come along to our class assembly next term on Friday 17th January at 9.10am. Have a lovely holiday and we hope to see you there.
Mrs Lewis
Primary 7/6L have been busy preparing Christmas Crafts as an enterprise project for the Christmas Fayre. In numeracy we have been working on calculating cost (our expenditure) and also the terms profit and loss to decide what price to sell our products. We will be selling both of our products at the Fayre on Saturday. We have made sock snowmen as well as a winter recipe book full of yummy sweet treats and winter warmers from our wonderful staff. We have also been making and selling Christmas cards around to school to fundraise for our class sponsored animal.
Well done to Primary 7/6L who came 5th in the West Lothian Sumdog contest last week with a fabulous score of 717. A great effort at home and in school.
Our P5-7 ICT Club will not be running this Monday coming (18.11.19) however an additional week will be added on at the end of the block meaning the ICT Club will run on the following 2 weeks (25.11.19 and 2.12.19). Apologies for the change in dates.
Mrs Lewis
Primary 7/6L had an excellent workshop yesterday looking at the importance of Remembrance Day and Armistice Day. We learnt all about the Poppy and why it is a symbol of Remembrance. We also learnt a lot about World War 1. Alan Hamilton from the Royal British Legion visited our class yesterday to share with us his wealth of knowledge and personal experience in the armed forces and of East Calder Primary School and local area as a former pupil himself. Not only has Alan served in the army but he shared with us the experiences of both his great uncle who fought during World War 1 and his father who fought during World War 2. After lunch we learnt all about local people from East Calder who had been soldiers during the war and visited East Calder Cemetery to lay poppy crosses. Before leaving Alan shared with us the wonderful story of his Uncles army whistle he was given in 1916! What a journey his whistle has had! A very valuable learning experience yesterday which taught us all the importance of Remembrance Day.
As part of our learning about Remembrance Day and the Poppy Primary 7/6L will be working alongside the British Legion today to learn more about the poppy as a symbol for remembrance. We will be working in class to learn more about veterans from our local area before visiting East Calder Cemetery to lay poppies (weather dependent). Please remember we will be selling poppies in school all week this week to support the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
