Crowning of the Gala Queen Performance
Well done to the dancers who represented East Calder Primary School on Friday evening for the crowning of the Gala Queen 2025.
The girls danced to Wings by Little Mix and demonstrated their use of creativity and collaborating meta-skills.
Dynamic Day Out
Today primary 4 visited Dynamic earth as part of their Climate topic. We learned so much about the climate, weather and the world. We had a workshop about weather, a movie and a tour.
Here are some highlights.
Skills Hubs Week 1- Self Management
In our first self management skills hub the ‘Pet Care’ group were learning all about looking after a horse. They were visited by Cid the Shetland pony. The hub group started by discussing his anatomy and how each part of his body was used to communicate and how we take care of his needs. The children then looked at grooming him and tools for keeping him happy and healthy. We discussed his diet and looked at what food he eats in a day and how eat part of his diet supports his wellbeing. We discussed exercise and looked at tack used for riding and how it worked. Finally the children got to try leading him and using their body and voice to give him instructions.
Primary 4B Class Pets
Today Primary 4B got 2 new pet gerbils in school. They decided to call them Tom and Jerry.

Primary 4 Class Pet
Well done team 4 who cleaned out our class gerbil today. They made sure to work as a team to get all parts of her cage clean for her to use. We always remember to keep some of her bedding to ensure she has a familiar scent when we return her to her cage.
Primary 4 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Day
Primary 4 have been completing a novel study this term on Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. To celebrate completing the novel we had a day yesterday completing lots of fun activities linked to the novel. Lots of learners dressed up and enjoyed being in role as characters from the text. Well done to everyone in Primary 4 for their hard work and enthusiasm towards the novel this term.
Chess Club
Chess club have been learning about the rules of chess and how to correctly set up a chess board. We spent time learning about all of the pieces on the board before beginning to challenge each other in our chess league.
World Book Day in Primary 4A
For world book day we celebrated as a school by dressing up in our pyjamas and getting comfortable for a ‘Big Bedtime Read’. Here we are enjoying some texts of our choice in class on Friday.
Primary 4 Party
Yesterday Primary 4 pupils took part in their Christmas party. We had games, dancing and lots of delicious snacks. We had a lovely morning all together.
