Primary 4 Maths

Primary 4A and Primary 4B have been learning about Money this term. We took part in an online session with the Museum on the Mound in Edinburgh to learn all about money. We started by examining what materials we use for money today and tried to rip and damage a small piece of polymer each. We agreed money must be strong and long lasting.

We looked at money in the past and around the world. We discussed what money is and how different cultures and civilisations have used money in the past to trade for items. We had to guess what some of the items provided were and then  decide if they would be a useful currency today or not. We finished the session by designing some of our own coins which we have posted off to the museum to be made into badges.

P6/5 Trip to Museum of Rural Life

On Tuesday this week, Primary 6/5 enjoyed an amazing trip to the Museum of Rural Life near East Kilbride.

We took part in a workshop where we learned about where different foods come from and then we deconstructed a number of meals to break down the ingredients and say where they originated from. We then constructed an ‘eco-friendly’ burger, using the least amount of air miles possible.

After this, we rode in the tractor trailer up to the working farm, where we encountered farm horses, chickens, cattle and rare breed pigs. The stars of the show were most definitely the sweetest calves, who were so tame and friendly and didn’t mind being petted by all of us. The piglets were also very cute and seemed to be enjoying the pouring rain!

After lunch, we looked around the exhibits in the museum, giving us a fascinating insight into the origins of farm machinery and farming methods in the past.

We even had time for a quick play in the park before heading home. A really enjoyable trip and as usual, our pupils were a credit to us.
