We are very proud of our two talented pupils in P1Y. Well done for receiving a trophy for doing amazing balances in your gymnastics class, and for winning a medal for dirt bike riding at Duns.

Embedding a reading culture in P7S
In P7S we have been looking at what key skills we use in class everyday that we could continue to develop as we move forward towards the world of work. It was interesting to hear the class discuss what life skills they actually use on a daily basis but may not even realise it. When we looked at a full day in P7 words such as communication, resilience, confidence, organisation and problem solving were all mentioned. Looking at the Developing the Young Workforce website, all key life skills. Linking to communication the class also mentioned reading and how they thought this particular skill would impact on a whole range of careers. With this in mind we decided we wanted a particular area in the class where we could read for pleasure. We also wanted to link our reading to everyday contexts so we brought in a range of Non Fiction texts from around home and school, demonstrating that reading really is all around us. We also visited the library last week and chose to select non fiction texts as we felt that maybe we were great readers but we needed to widen our genre. If you look at the photos we have created a corner where we can read and share our recommendations with the rest of the class….we have become living blurbs!
