This Week in P3

Literacy

In reading this week, we have been developing our skim reading skills. We were given a passage about winter sports and then we had to answer questions about the text. We were highlighting the key words in the question and skimming through the passage until we read those words. We would then read around the key words to find and highlight the information to help us answer the question.

During our narrative writing this week, we created a roll and write Valentine Story. We had to roll a dice and the number would tell us who our characters were, where our setting was and what the problem was. Then we had to use our imagination to develop a storyline to entertain the reader. We were focusing on using adjectives and connecting words to add in extra details to our stories.

Maths

This week, we were looking at addition and subtraction word problems. We had to use our critical thinking skills to help us work out what the question was asking us to do. Some of us underlined the key details in the question and then wrote the equation we were asked to solve.

We have also been continuing to develop our skills when telling the time. We have been stopping throughout the day to read the time on the clock. We have also been converting analogue time to 12 hour digital time.

IDL

As a class, we have voted for sports to be our IDL topic. We have made a plan about things we would like to learn throughout this topic.

In RME, we were learning about the Christian Bible story of Noah’s Art. We watched a video of the story and then had a class discussion about this story. We also had to write a summary of this Bible story and include all the key details.

This week I have been challenging the children to add 2 collections when one of them is screened (this is support counting on strategies), they have also been introduced to subtration using this method. I was so pleased to see 2 children challenging each other (with no promting at all) using screens.

The children have also been creating their own numbers talks and challenging each other.

We have been exploring how larger numbers are made using 10 as a base number and dienes base 10 blocks. Some children created very large numbers!

Art and Design

We have started creating a forest display complete with drawings of the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs.

11.02.2022 P4 Class

We’ve had an amazing week!

For Numeracy, we have been learning to read and tell the time.  For Maths, we have been learning to find factors and multiples of a number.

For PE, we practiced our aim and attacking skills during Dodgeball.  We also started performing Ceilidh dance.

We have been exploring ways to keep safe online and we have been leaning about gender equality.  We wrote a story about the Loch Ness and monster and read the myth of Ghillie Dhu.  We researched facts about Scottish clans and then we made our own personal crests.

Our stationery station enterprise is a hit!  Thank you all for your support.  Have fantastic long weekend!

Another Great Week In P6

Outdoor Learning!

One of our favourite activities this week was Green Gym outdoor learning with Alice. It was our last session so as a special treat we had a fire and ate toasted marshmallows and popcorn!

We even had a go at starting our own fires by using flint and steel and cotton covered with vaseline.

This was really tricky!

Anton, Kyle, Hope and Emily were great fire starters!

The marshmallows were delicious.

Bella – My mouth was covered in cream!

Hope – It looked like a meteroid!

Alexis didn’t like marshmallows so Miss Stanway got hers!

The popcorn was also tasty.

Kykle – The popcorn was very good!

Coding

Bailey – Learning to make sounds was fun!

Participation Friday!

We are painting rocks to sell and hide in the community. They have a positive message on them.

Hope – My rock turned out better than I thought! It was a bee and it says BEE HAPPY!

As part of LGBTQ+ month we discussed the importance of respect and tolerance.

Anton used the Kepla in friendship time to spell this out:

This Week in P5…..

This week in P5 we have continued our coding activities in Digital Learning. Here are some quotes from the children explaining what they were doing:

Summer – We were coding things to make them race.

Sophie C – We got to play this game called ‘Up in the air’ and we got to code the planes to go up in the sky and go around in circles.

Ariah – We were using the keys on the keyboard instead of tapping the screen.

In Numeracy we had a focus on Multiples, Factors and Primes. We learned that:

-Multiples are really just extended times tables.

-Factors are numbers that divide exactly into another number.

-Prime numbers are special numbers, greater than 1, that have exactly two factors, themselves and 1.

We used online videos and games to learn about these, including BBC Bitesize and Topmarks – both of which we can access at home too!

In Spelling this week we wrote out our spelling words and then circled the vowels in each word in one colour and then the consonants in each word in another colour.

In Reading we discussed our predictions from last week, looked at the comments Mrs Hillan made, and created new predictions for the next part of our stories, trying to see if we could improve on last week’s. If we can show we have made improvements, our pieces may go up on our Bump It Up wall.

In Writing this week, we used pictures for inspiration. We discussed the pictures and possible adventures/stories that could come from this. We noted down some good ideas and vocabulary that we could possibly use. After this, we each created our own plans for our stories and thought about a title for our piece. We will write our stories next time.

Here are the pictures we looked at and then some of our ideas:

Erin R – A girl will find a dying alien in a UFO. She will get a magic bike that will take her into space.

Kayleigh – A little girl will go for a walk and she will see a tiger who will put her into a house which is on fire.

Chloe – A little girl goes into the woods and finds a shape-shifter that can turn into lots of things, including a tiger.

Ariah – A girl goes a walk in the woods and finds someone who is trapped in a house. She tries to save the person, but can’t because there is a tiger guarding it.

This week is Internet Safety Week, so we have been discussing staying safe online, creating posters to encourage this, looking at potential dangers online and discussing scenarios we might come across.

Remember we are off on Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th February and we will be back on Wednesday 16th. Have a lovely long weekend!!
