P6/5 Daily Plan

Happy New Year!

I wish you all the best.

The format for this plan will develop over the week, as will the timetable and content of “Files”. Please bear with me.

Reading

I am hoping to read the class novel “Wonder” live after morning check ins. This will be the first time I have tried this! The follow up activity is the role of Predictor from Literacy Circles. A sheet to support you with this can be found here: Teams > P 5-6 Mr Colverson > Files > Class Materials > Literacy

Numeracy

LI To multiply (and divide) by 10. Again I will try to do a live teach for this as timetabled. I will start with TJ Book 1b (this can be found here: Teams > P 5-6 Mr Colverson > Files > Class Materials > Maths and Numeracy) page 26, and then progress onto pages 58 and 59. For those of you that want to really challenge yourselves try the “How do I plan a simple budget?” activity here:

Spelling

I have up-loaded (into this file: Teams > P 5-6 Mr Colverson > Files > Class Materials > Spelling) the overviews for P5 and P6, as well as P4 and P2, which you can use for additional support. There is also the Fry’s list of common words. As you will see this weak P5 should focus on the letter “j” and P6 have a list of common and tricky words. I have also up-loaded a list of spelling activities. Today please select activities to suit yourself.

Health / Reading / Art

In the “Health” file I have up-loaded a drawing I think Mrs Stewart likes. Have a look at it and read the caption. What do you think? Below is a link to the excellent BBC website. You can read the article and watch the video. You can pause the video to copy his drawing, like we have before when using youtube to follow step by step instructions to draw the beach.

Welcome Back

Welcome back to the new term.  Most pupils are working from home for now.

P1-P4/3 will receive learning experiences shared through Seesaw, which children have access to using the Seesaw App.  Children are encouraged over the next two weeks to work through the activities in their pack, take photographs of their learning and share on Seesaw.

P4-P7 will use Microsoft 0365 Team, which can be accessed through their Glow account. Information for parents on how their child uses Teams is available on the following link: bit.ly/wlglowguide

Nursery children should continue to access our Nursery Blog where there will be daily updates with lots of exciting learning activities. Nursery parents/carers can also collect a PEEP Learning at home pack from the school office.

This Week in P3/2

Literacy

This week, we were practicing our tricky words. We were using rainbow writing and quizzing a friend.

For reading this week, we were given a passage and then answered questions by finding information from within the text. One of our passages was about Christmas trees as we learned about the history of the Christmas tree and how different counties have different traditions.

Maths

In maths this week, we were using the most effective strategy to solve addition problems. During number talks, we discussed all the different strategies we could use to calculate the answer to a sum.

IDL

This week for our Viking topic, we were learning about the Battle of Largs. This was the last battle between the Scots and the Vikings. The Pencil was built to celebrate the Scots keeping the land and to remember those who lost their lives in the fight.

Christmas Activities

We really enjoyed a variety of Christmas activities. We all worked very hard to practice our Christmas poem. We also designed and decorated Christmas baubles.  At our Christmas party, we got very excited about seeing Santa’s message.
