Good Morning Everyone! I hope you all had a great day yesterday!

You will soon be receiving a new Home Learning Pack so, try to finish off as  much as you can from Week 6, 7 and 8 . Some new tasks for you to complete today.

Activity 1 – wh sound

Yesterday I introduced you to the wh sound. Today I would like you to complete 2

activities from your Home Learning Pack – wh Words Cut and Paste and also Code Breaker wh and th. Below is a clip from Youtube hopefully you will find it helpful.

I would also like you to try playing the “I See Words” game from Educationcity. It will help you to practice recognising some of the tricky words we have learned so far. Remember your Educationcity password is in your jotter. Just login, go to subjects, literacy, then early** and lastly scroll down to “I See Words” Enjoy!

 

Activity 2 –  Reading

I hope you enjoyed reading and sharing your non-fiction book from Oxford Owl.

Today I would like you to answer the questions below. Remember to use part of the question to form your answer.

1. Why do the animals in the book have big eyes?
2. What does a fox like to hunt?
3. Why do some bugs light up at night?
4. At dusk what can you often see?
5. What animal shape can some of the stars make?
6. Challenge Question – What do you think the message of this story was?

Activity 3 – Writing

For this writing activity I would like you to firstly go to your home learning pack, writing activities , task for week three. There is a picture of a little girl reaching up to open a magic door. Have a look at the picture and think about why she was there? what was she looking for? how was she feeling? You have a story starter  There was a loud bang and to my surprise a door appeared on the garden wall……… You can copy the story starter into your jotter and then continue by describing what happened when she pushed the door opened! I would love to see how you continue the story so please send copies to me via the school email. Enjoy!

Activity 4 – Number Talks

Remember Number Talks are all about how you solve a task mentally. For these activities don’t use anything to help you, just use your brain!

Activity 5 – Subtraction

L.I.  to subtract a 1 digit number within 10

S.C. I can solve a 1 step subtraction problem using concrete materials or pictorial representations

Today I would like you to complete 2 pieces of work from your Home Learning Pack. Turn to  Subtracting from 3, 4 and 5 Home Activity 12 and Subtraction Word Problems Home Activity 13. Top Tip – Remember you can cross off the animals you are taking away to stop you counting them twice. You may need someone to help you read the word problems. Enjoy!

Activity 6 – Art and Design

L.I. to use a range of media creatively

S.C. I can use stones, paint and chalk to make painted rock houses

I have noticed when I have been out on my walks little painted houses that have been made by children. I think they look beautiful and make people smile!

         

Why not have a go and creating your own stone painted house. Some instructions below (might be a good idea to start with an interesting stone shape) Enjoy!

Good Morning everyone I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and have been enjoying this amazing sunny weather! Welcome to the brand new month of June. We have now moved from Spring into Summer!

Well it’s the beginning of another busy week of learning. So lets get started- some tasks for you to complete.

Activity 1  New Sound wh

L.I. to understand that 2 letters can make 1 sound

S.C. I can say the sound to match the letter shape

S.C. I can blend this sound with other sounds to read words

wh is a loud red lip sound. wh words often sound like w words when they are at the beginning of a word. Try blending these sounds together to make wh words.

wh – ee – l            wh  – i – p               wh – i – s – k        wh -i -s – p – e – r

A number of words with the wh sound at the beginning are questioning words. Have a go at blending these sounds together to make words.

wh – a – t        wh  – i – ch         wh – e – n           wh – e – r -e

Can you create a sentence for each of the wh questioning words? For example- What is your favourite season of the year? (remember when you are asking a question you always need to end the sentence with a question mark)

Now  practice writing the wh sound in your jotter. When you have completed your handwriting practice try Find and Write the “wh” Words from your learning pack.

Activity 2 – Reading

Remember Number Talks are all about how to solve a task mentally, so for the activities below just use your brain!

Two numbers talks today the first one – How many dots are there and how do you see them?

The second one is a little bit different – the question (for each ten frame) is how many dots do you see and how many more to make 10?

Can you explain the strategy you used? For example, I may say “I see 4 dots and  I already know that 4 and 6 make 10, so I would need 6 more dots to fill the  10 frame.

Activity 4 –  Numeracy –   

L.I. to count back from a given number

S.C. I can use concrete materials to “take away” from a number or a collection

S.C. I can use a number line to “jump back”

For the rest of this week we are going to focus on subtraction or “take away”. You can use concrete materials, or a number line to help support your thinking. I would like you to complete Subtracting 1 and 2 Home Activity 11 from you Home Learning Pack. You may also like to play Sten’s Party Count back from 10 which is on Educationcity (remember your password in inside your jotter) Enjoy!

Activity 5- Health and Well being Relationships

I would like you to think about different ways that you could give someone encouragement for example, you may say they are a great footballer player, a fantastic singer, good at writing etc. Receiving praise helps us to feel good about ourselves and it is also important to be able to praise ourselves and recognise our own qualities. I would like you to think about all the things you do that make you feel proud and then complete I am incredible because …………….. sheet from your Learning Pack.

Activity 2 – Maths Measure

L.I. to measure using non-standard units

S.C. I can use my feet to measure a variety of objects

I would like you to complete Measuring using your feet, Page 9 from you Home Learning Pack. You may not have the objects that it is asking you to measure  so why not get inventive and measure things in your room/house or in the garden  The important thing is to use your feet to measure. Remember Heel to Toe when measuring. Challenge –  can you find an object and estimate how many feet long it is then measure it using your feet. How accurate was your estimation?

Activity 3 – /hp/

L.I. to count a collection

S.C. I can use one-to-one correspondence to count a given number

I would like you to turn to Counting to 20 home activity 6 from your home learning pack. Try activity 1 – collect 20 pegs/counters etc. and make number cards 11-20 , lay them face down on the table, turn one over and count out that many e.g. if you turn over a card with 15 then count out 15 pegs/counters etc. You can challenge yourself by increasing the cards to 30 or 40 (make sure you have that many objects to count) Enjoy!Then complete the next part of the page how many apples? and draw……… apples. Top  Tip– remember when counting the apples it may be a good idea to cross them off so you don’t count them twice or not at all.

Activity 4 – Art and Crafts

L.I. to use a range of media creatively

S.C. I can use my fingerprints to create an effect

As it is Friday, I thought you might like to try a little art activity. Below is a picture of a tree, a very personal tree. It is personal because the person who painted it used their fingerprints to create foliage. So why not try to make your own personal tree. Firstly, you need to draw the trunk and branches (as below, you may need a little help) then using your finger tips dip them in print (Make sure you don’t use too much or you won’t see the lines of your finger prints) and lastly decorate the tree with them. Enjoy! Alternatively you could use different shades of green and create a background for your tree.

I hope you all had a great day yesterday and enjoyed “Wellness Wednesday”. I managed to get more plants planted in my garden and now have to stop my dog Alfie from eating them. A big thank you to Sophie’s mum for sending a picture of her poster. Sophie it looks amazing thank you so much for sharing it with me. It has made my day.  Some new activities for you to complete today.

Activity 1 –    th sound

On Tuesday we looked at the soft and loud th sound (its a bit tricky but the more you practice the easier it will become)

We find the soft th in words such as – thin, think, bath, path etc. and the loud hard th in words such as the, them, then etc. Today I would like you to complete the th Code Breaker from you learning pack. Top Tip – all the words have the soft th sound! Challenge – can you make a sentence for each word?
