P5/6 Assembly – Climate Change

Thanks to all the parents, carers and family members who made it along to our assembly this morning. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed performing it.

Here’s a reminder of some of the things you can do to stop the effects of Climate Change –

  • Eat less meat
  • Buy food locally
  • Use the car less – walk or take public transport
  • Don’t waste food
  • Only buy things you really need

 

Friendship in P5/6 – Make friends, break friends?

Today in Health and Wellbeing we were learning about friendships. We discussed what we thought friendship was and debated scenarios where both sides of the story were given. This led to discussion about whether it might be appropriate to break a friendship under certain circumstances. We also thought about ways to save friendships and things we could say to mend friendships that have been broken.

 

 

 

The class have raced each other and challenged themselves doing hurdles.

The class got  a new topic on climate change they have been enjoying  their topic and have started designing machines to help climate change.

Next week the class are going to Livingston football stadium.

Maths fun day in P5/6

Today was Maths Fun Day. Mrs Lockart and Miss Beattie had organised a basket of fun maths related  activities for us to take part in. We had great fun playing games such as dominoes, fraction games and ‘multiplication dash’. As well as using our maths skills, we also demonstrated excellent skills in team work and negotiation.

Debating Deforestation in P5/6

 

Continuing our topic on Climate Change, we looked at deforestation and it’s affects. We sorted statements about deforestation into ‘for’ and ‘against’ piles. We then debated the issues it caused but also found that there were some reasons that people might think it can’t be fully stopped. Things like toilet roll, paper and a good road network were essentials many of us decided we would not like to live without!

This led to rich discussions around what alternative there may be. One class member suggested we attempt a ‘paperless day’ in our class – watch this space…………………..

Blankety Blank – P5/6

During our reading lesson we created reading sticks and used them to help us with our new ‘Blankety Blank’ game. We worked in pairs to read a passage with missing words and had to used our reading skills to fill in the blanks.

Andy’s Marbles

Andy has lost his marbles! He only has 14 left. We had to use our knowledge of fractions to work out how many he had to start with.

Basketball

P6/7 have been playing basketball and learning new moves. As a warm up P6/7 have been practising dribbling and passing. We have been going into groups of two or three to learn how to dribble the ball. We have been playing games and everybody has improved. We have been working on our teamwork skills. In the last game the “man of the match” was the stage!
