Highlights of the Week!

Leavers’ Assembly

Anton – I enjoyed the leavers’ assembly. My favourite part was the time machine. I cried! This is because many of my friends are in P7!

Bella – I enjoyed the singing.

Emily – I enjoyed seeing the P7s dancing. I had never seen L.D. dance before. When they were spinning round in the 50s dance they looked very dizzy.

Debbie – I enjoyed singing along to the songs because I knew all of them!

Buddies

Jaxson – I enjoyed seeing my buddy. We played tig!

Hope – I enjoyed helping my buddy during their visit to the P1 classroom.

Lily-Elen – My buddy made me coffee out of sand!

Bella – I am excited because on Thursday we will be having a teddy bears’ picnic with our buddies!

Also, P6 buddies made books for their buddies.

P.E.

During P.E. we having been choosing what to do on the field and so have played lots of games.

Hide and Seek

Bella – Oscar and Anton walked right passed us!

Bailey – Fraser hid in the long grass and nobody could see him!

Oscar – Jaxson hid up a tree and I was hiding near him in the long grass.

Jaxson – I was trying not to make any noise and a big spider was on my face!!!!!!!

Emily – Hiding in the grass made my eyes sore (I have hay fever.)

Alexis – Bella walked past us 3 times when I was hiding!

Callum – I was hiding in a bush and Kaiden and Kyle walked past…I heard them say ‘All clear!’

Movie

Emily – I enjoyed watching Spiderman even though I cried. Everyone in the forgot who Peter Parker was!

Outdoor Learning

Emily – We went to the shop and put soil in the planters.

Music Appreciation

Emily – We were listening to the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack and also Kate Bush. We all knew the chorus!

 

P65 Week Ending Friday 10th June

Monday

Green gym first thing. Continued to make bird box.

One group working on place value in maths and estimating, another on long division and another reviewing the four functions.

In P.E. we practised our athletics skills, focussing on hurdles and relay races.

New spelling words out.

Finishing off lots of little art activities in the afternoon.

Tuesday

Marble jar full! Fun day. Morning spent doing educational (but fun) activities. What was really cool was that one small group elected to do challenging maths with support! We watched a movie in the afternoon.

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D looking at what resources we could buy for the garden .

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching conversations and days and months.

For literacy we did a spelling.

Thursday

Literacy: writing about “How to make a sandwich”. We spent a lot of time on this.

What Have P6 Been Up To This Week?

Numeracy

We practised converting percentages into fractions and decimals.

Literacy

We wrote thank-you letters to the people who came to our careers fayre last week.

Science

Bailey – I enjoyed creating my life cycle PowerPoint about an eagle. I even put a video clip on.

Outdoor Learning

Jaxson -I enjoyed this. We made sure the plants were growing well in their containers.

Reading Ambassadors

Emily – We got to read to the younger children!

New Teacher

Hope – I enjoyed visiting my new teacher!

Bella – I enjoyed visiting Mrs Moyes. We were given a lolly pop and had to write something nice about another person on it.

Primary 3 Toy Sale

Dear Parents/Carers

Primary 3 are having a sale of toys, jigsaws, games and books to raise money for plants to put in the planters at the shops in Deans. The sale will be this Friday, the 10th of June from11:15am -11:45am in the Primary 3 classroom.

You are very welcome to come to school from 11:15 and join your child at the sale. This then gives you the opportunity to attend the coffee morning at 11:45 in the hall to meet The Support Squad (Parent Council).

P65 Week Ending Friday 3rd June

Monday

Green gym first thing.

Jigsaw between break and lunch.

In P.E. we practised our rugby skills, focussing on always passing the ball backwards.

New spelling words out.

Maths: Quick decimal and tables practice.

Tuesday

Literacy: Reading comprehension this week was to draw a book cover for a favourite book, with a quality blurb. Spelling as usual.

Maths: very active measuring perimeters lesson in the playground.

In the afternoon we got lots of construction kits out and investigated creating wheeled vehicle.

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D looking at the pond that had been vandalized.

For literacy we did a spelling assessment.

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching conversations and food.

Thursday

Literacy: writing about the Millennium Falcon being built in Wales. We spent a lot of time on this.

Careers fayre in the afternoon.

 

What Have P6 Been Up To This Week?

Literacy

Group reading – We summarized what we had read so far with our partner and then read on. We discussed any unknown words using various reading strategies.

Writing – We read through an example of an information text (how to treat a snake bite.) Then we acted out the treatment on a willing victim! Next we designed our own procedural/instructional writing based on a topic of our choice. Some of us focused on gaming and others on making sandwiches and other recipes. When we had finished we read them aloud to the class to see if our instructions made sense. This was great fun!

Numeracy

We revised fractions of shapes – mixed numbers and improper fractions. We also practised finding fractions of amounts and revised equivalent fractions.

Coding

We wrote block code using 3 different elements and linked this in to the Queen’s Jubilee.

Health

P.E.

We practised our cricketing skills. There was some excellent bowling, batting and catching demonstrated!

We also played rounders in the hall on Wednesday.

Careers Day

On Thursday we were able to interview and talk to various people representing different professions. There were scientists, artists, teachers, joiners, theatre producers and a prison warden to name but a few. We had previously written questions we had wanted to ask and so were thoroughly prepared. It was a great success.

Changing Me

We talked about how a baby is made and how a baby develops in the womb.

Finally we found out who our new teacher is going to be next year. We are delighted that we are staying together as a class and our new teacher is Mrs Moyes. We are going to be wonderful P7s!

Tuesday

Literacy: Spelling as usual.

Maths: one group worked on revision while another group worked on subtraction of money.

In health today the class split into P5s and P6s and we worked from the Jigsaw program.

We also did coding with Mrs B.

To support our learning on China this afternoon we made paper dragons.

 

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D working on their French.

For maths the class continued their work on assessment.

For literacy we did spelling as usual.

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching conversations and family members.

As an art activity relating to China we drew dragons in the afternoon.

 

Thursday

Literacy: spelling.

Maths: one group looked at equivalent fractions and another group continued their work on subtraction using money.

Art related to China was the addition of cherry blossom to the trees we started the previous week. We also finished off the drawings of dragons and a health activity for Ms T.

The health activity on “when normal changes” today was lead by Mark.

Friday

Maths: one group continued their work on addition and decimals, moving on from money to measure. Another group looked at qualifying recent maths activities into the four functions, place value etc.

Literacy: Spelling and an excellent talking and listening activity inspired by SU’s socks! Which lead onto AD’s crocs!

What Have P6 Been Up To This Week?

Numeracy 

We practised recalling division facts quickly and also formal written methods.

Bella – I got my numeracy all correct.

Literacy

We continued to complete our research about extinct and endangered animals and then wrote an information report about them.

Lily-E – I learnt about a Woolly Rhinoceros.

Joel – I learnt that in 2021 there were between 30-430 wildcats in Scotland.

Anton – In 2022 there are less than 100 wildcats.

Oscar – I learnt an arctic fox purrs like a cat.

Bailey – An arctic fox lives for 3/4 years.

Health

We discussed body image and the differences between our real self and our ideal self. We talked about how if people are constantly trying to be something they are not it can lead to mental illness. We know the importance of accepting our real self.

Joel – I enjoyed creating a self-esteem smoothie. We added ingredients such as ‘being positive.’

Bella – I enjoyed looking at different people’s smoothies.

PE

Bella – I enjoyed football rounders. It was fun.

Jaxson – I enjoyed dodgeball.

Anton – I liked football rounders.

P65 Week Ending Friday 20th May

Monday

Language today we continued our work on Shakespeare’s Richard III. Some children took on his role in a hot seat drama activity, and we then all asked him questions. We also got new spelling words.

In maths today we continued work on sequences of number, negative number and related this to temperature.

In P.E. we practised our skills for landing on mats from jumps.

The class also split in two to continue the health work from Jigsaw.

We also spent some time practising our Chinese.

Tuesday

Literacy: Spelling as usual.

Maths: we all worked on money, one group on addition, another on division and the third on related word problems.

In health today the class split into P5s and P6s and we worked from the Jigsaw program.

We also did coding with Mrs B.

To support our learning on China this afternoon we made paper dragons.

 

Wednesday

The class spent their time with Mrs D working on their area and other gardening.

For maths the class continued their work on temperature.

For literacy we did spelling as usual, and related the maths work to reading comprehension.

After lunch we made the most of the good weather and went out to the TrimTrak. Some of the children from this class took the opportunity to play with the smaller children in their playground.

The live link with Chinese students to continue topic work was excellent, teaching how to write Chinese characters and how to identify the radicals that help make their meanings clearer.

At the end of the day we finished the dragons we had started on Tuesday.

 

Thursday

Literacy was a reading comprehension activity on the same Chinese story as the previous week, and how this created designs for willow pattern china. And spelling.

Maths was looking at planning activities and areas of study for the rest of the year.

We did an additional activity looking at the football match of the previous night and the importance of being good sports.

The health activity on “what is normal” today was lead by Mark.

For another health activity today we looked at the jobs of the people coming to the careers afternoon next month.

What have P6 been up to this week?

Health 

This week we talked about cyber bullying and discussed strategies to help deal with this.

P.E.

Dance – This week we continued to practise our Hip Hop dancing skills.

Rounders – We practised throwing and catching skills first then we practised our batting skills. We worked as a team to build up points then we played competitive matches.

Literacy

In group reading we read our novels and then practised our prediction skills.

Numeracy

We practised using various mental strategies to efficiently divide a 3 digit number by a 1 digit number.

In addition we also practised dividing numbers by 10, 100 or 1000. This meant some of our answers were decimals.

Topic/ Literacy

We researched extinct and endangered living organisms from Scotland.

Katie – I found out otters hold hands when they sleep.

Emily – I enjoyed finding out about the mammoth and woolly rhinoceros even though they were extinct a long time ago.

Outdoor Learning

Katie – We put soil in plant pots and moved the planters.

Alexis – We moved the pallets and we are making them into fake cars for the younger children.

Coding

This week we learnt how to write block code which increased/ decreased the speed of an object.
