P4 06.12.2021

What a lovely week we’ve had!  We had our digital learning day on Tuesday.  We learnt how to use digital technologies to upload documents in glow.

We have been learning to write story plots based on Christmas.  We proofread and edited sentences and for reading, we used the internet to research information for our class talk.

For numeracy and maths, we have been revising and consolidating the concepts we have learnt throughout the term.

We had a great time making Christmas decorations too.

P4/3 Learning Highlights this Week.

This week we have been getting into the festive spirit in our classroom. We have enjoyed opening the Deans decisions Makers advent calendar each morning. We have loved the fitness challenges and sharing what has been making us happy each day. We have also started researching all of the Victorian Christmas Traditions which we love to celebrate at this time of year. We worked together in pairs to use the internet and some research texts to find out as much as we can.

Here are some of the facts we found out-

Sometimes Victorians had a upside down Christmas tree hanging from their ceilings.

Candy canes were invented to keep children quiet during ‘living’ nativity scenes and the shape was to represent the shape of a shepherds crook.

Victorians sent the first Christmas cards and some Victorian Christmas cards were very strange!

We had a go at making our own Victorian decorations. We made Cornucopias and paper chains. Cornucopias are cone shaped decorations hung from a tree with ribbons and filled with delicious sweeties.

To complete our block of Persuasive writing we wrote letters to Santa to persuade him of how well behaved we have been this year. We had some fantastic arguments from the everyone. Here are some examples.

I have been helpful to my mum by cleaning the kitchen – Elkie

I have been helping by looking after my pets – Nathaniel

I have been helped my mum by watching my baby sister and letting mum have a wee rest – Lennon

We are fairly certain that Santa will have no choice but to deliver all of P4/3 amazing gifts this year.

P4 Digital Day

Today P4 have been working on all things digital as part of DYW / Digital Learning.  They were very competitive learning keyboard skills.  They had to do a lot of problem solving and debugging to get their Lego creations to move correctly.  Everyone enjoyed creating a short stop frame animation.

Everyone had a great time.  “It didn’t feel like we were at school we were having so much fun”.  Well done everyone for working so well together and trying your very best.  You managed to upload lots of your work and your animations to your class team page.

P4/3 Create Flying Santas and More Digital Learning

This week we have had a revision of simple fractions.
We had fun using games – both hand’s on and online.

We were learning about St Andrew on St Andrew’s day.  We designed our own tartans online.  We even managed to save our designs on Word, and then upload our documents onto our class team.

We have also been practising our keyboard skills. As we become more familiar with the keys, we are getting faster at logging into different websites and apps.

We have been learning to write programs to run on the computer using block coding. We had great fun coding Santa to fly across the screen.

You can see some videos of our flying Santas, and more of our digital learning on our Twitter page @MrsBuntinICT

I enjoyed rounding and estimation-  LM

I loved doing everything but I liked making a winter art- SLW

I liked finding the things (objects) using the coordinates- KH

For reading, we continued learning to summarise a story.  We also used a range of reading skills to understand what we read.

For writing,  we persuaded our reader regarding the importance of looking after the world.

Primary 4 Nov 26, 2021

We have hit the ground running with P4 business enterprise.   There will be a pop up Stationery Station very soon.  So watch this space!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our week as we have been learning to follow directions to find treasure.  We learnt to estimate answers to addition sums and we have been practicing rounding.

For Literacy,  we consolidated all our learning all of our reciprocal reading strategies.  We continued writing persuasive text and practiced our spelling words.
