We have had a busy week here in Primary 2! Here are some of the things we have been doing.
Numeracy
We are continuing to look at numbers before and after a given number. To help us with this, we have been thinking about our daily routines and what order we do things throughout the day.
We have also been working on dot patterns and coming up with strategies for seeing numbers in different ways.
Euan – “The number after 7 is 8.”
Macy May – “We did dot patterns with a partner.”
IDL
This week, we have read all about grey and white crayon. We created our very own emotion crayons and the results were fantastic! We came up with so many different emotions! We also discovered that white crayon felt rather useless as nobody ever seen him. We had a discussion about how white crayon is very useful and then used paint to investigate what happened to different colours when we added white to them.
Jordon – “We mixed white and blue to make light blue.”
Vrishti – “White and red makes light pink.”
Writing
We have started to look at descriptive writing. This week, we discussed the “describing bubble” and how this will help us in our writing. We had a think about all of the different describing words relating to colour, shape, size, number and doing words.
Good morning Primary 2! I really can’t believe this is our last day in P2! Here are some activities to finish off your year.
End of the year questions
Here are your final 2 questions for reflection!
If you could experience one part of the year again what would it be and why?
What has been your highlight of Primary 2?
Alphablocks
We have watched lots of different Alphablocks videos throughout the year. Today, I would like you to re-watch your favourite video! Have a think about all the sounds we have learned this year and the Alphablocks videos that went with them. You can find all the videos here:
I would like you to throw a party at your house to celebrate the end of the year! Here are some things you may need to do to prepare for your party:

Happy Thursday boys and girls, today is my last day posting on the blog for you. I’m feeling so so sad that I can’t see you all in person and have an amazing end of term celebration with you all in our classroom together. I am going to miss you all next year and hope to see you all around the school and hopefully hear a about the amazing things you will be achieving with your new teacher. I wish you all the best of luck and please know that I have had the best year working alongside you all and helping you to learn, grow and be the best you can be. You are all superstars!! Have an amazing summer holiday, keep safe and healthy and most importantly have lots and lots and lots of fun.
So to finish off our last day (blog) together let’s have fun on day 5 of our virtual trip to Disneyland. I don’t know about you but this has really made me want to visit Disney with Noah at some point! The rides all look amazing.
Disney Day 5!

Look at this picture from the movie ‘Moana’.
Only 1 in 1000 turtles live to be adults, they need our help!
Can you help the baby turtle to get to the sea by pointing out all of the obstacles.
What do humans need to do when they are on the beach to keep turtles safe? I love going to the beach but am sometimes saddened by all the things which can spoil such a beautiful place. How can we keep our beaches a wonderful place to visit for not only us as humans but for all the wildlife too?
Can you make a leaflet or poster to tell beach-goers how they can protect the environment?
Learning Intention: I am learning to care for the planet and its animals.
Success Criteria:
I can identify risks to the turtles.
I can explain what we can do to look after the turtles/planet.
I can present my ideas clearly through a recording or poster/leaflet.
P1: Make sure you write your answers in sentences. You could think of a question to ask somebody else, to check that they were watching carefully! Can you remember what a question word is? Share them with your adult.
Learning Intention: I am learning to answer questions about what I have seen/heard.
Success Criteria:
I can watch and think carefully about what is happening in the clip.
I can answer questions about what I have seen.
P2/1 challenge – create your own questions about the video and challenge your adult to answer them. Write them out and don’t forget to use a question mark at the end.
The Toy Story characters are all very good friends. Can you write a letter to one of your friends? You might want to tell them a piece of news, or what you enjoy doing with them. Do you have a special memory that you share with them from this year in school?
Learning Intention: I am learning to write a letter.
Success Criteria:
P1: I can use “to” and “from”. I can sound out words. I can draw a detailed picture.
P2: I can write in sentences. I can use “to” and “from”.
Health and Wellbeing
Watch the video of the parade. Can you join in with any of the dancing?
Why not have a go at making up your own dance. Choose your most favourite song and try out some dance moves! Have fun!
Learning Intention: I am learning to follow movements that I see.
Success Criteria:
I can follow movements.
I can create my own dance.
Finally to finish off our virtual trip, create your own souvenir photo using the templates below.
I hope you have enjoyed these type of posts for the last 2 weeks of term and been able to use some of the skills we have been learning and practising throughout the year. Mrs Lockhart will be posting tomorrow for the last day before the holidays, as I’ve already said, enjoy your summer and have lots of fun before starting back to school in August.
Good morning Primary 2! I hope you are all having a great week! We are almost at the end of term, and I am so proud of how well you have all done during these strange times. Here are some activities for your second last day in P2!
End of the year questions
Here are today’s questions for reflection!
What is something that you did this year that you will remember for the rest of your life?
What are you looking forward to doing over the summer?
Numeracy
Here is another fun game for the day! This game is called ‘Salute’ and is very similar to the game ‘heads up’.
What you will need:
Two people
Cards numbered 1-10 (or larger numbers for a challenge). These can be made from pieces of paper or post-it notes
How to play:
Player 1 should stick a number card to Player 2’s head (Player 2 shouldn’t see the card)
Player 1 should give Player 2 clues so they can guess the number (e.g. your number is double 7)
Once the number has been guessed correctly, swap roles and play the game again.
To make the game harder, increase the value of the numbers and use word problems as clues.
Get moving
Let’s get up and moving with Jack Hartmann! See if you can get everyone in your house to join in!
Memories
I would like you to use the template below to draw 4 things that you remember from this year. You can either print this template or draw it on a piece of paper. Once you have drawn your memories, I would like you to write at least 2 sentences about each one to describe it. Send your completed memory sheet to wldeans-ps@westlothian.org.uk so I can see your highlights of the year!
