Scotland

This week we learned all about Edinburgh Castle. We drew some great pictures and wrote some facts about the Castle.

We also created a character for our Narrative writing who visited Edinburgh Castle.

Today is the end of our Scottish topic. We looked at some different Scottish food and drink and the children enjoyed some Irn-Bru and Shortbread.

Yoga

Our interactive Yoga wall is now set up in the classroom. The children are using different strategies when they feel they need to calm down or take a minute to themselves. The children can use these strategies at home.

Hand – the children use a finger to go up and down the fingers on the other hand to breathe in as they go up and breathe out as they go down.

Here is a link as an example – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQVZgpyVQ78

Spider – breathe in for four counts and out for four counts.

Cup – three part breath – 1, 2, 3 breathing in each time.

Have a lovely long weekend!

Primary 2 Update – 31/01/22

Digital Day

Yesterday, we had a very fun day doing lots of different digital learning. We practiced our keyboard skills, we worked on coding a character and we even made robots move! We also made a short movie, in our groups, by taking lots of pictures, step by step and then adding them altogether to look like a movie. We have uploaded the videos onto Seesaw if you want to see our amazing work!

“It was the best day!” Hussain.

“I was so good at the typing!” – Katie

Scotland

Our display is now finished for our McCoos and tartan and we thought you would like to see it! This week for IDL, we looked at a map of Scotland and what the key in a map tells us. We then learned some facts about different cities in Scotland and had to label the cities on a map.

Writing

We have had another busy lesson for writing this week. The children had to tell a recount of a visit to the park. The children are working hard to include our core-writing targets and use a joining word to extend a sentence.

Primary 2

Scotland

We have been looking at the famous artist Steven Brown this week and made our own McCoos.

We also looked into the history of tartan and made some of our own tartan.

Writing

For our narrative topic, the children had Mrs Stewart’s job for the day and they had to decide what they would do when something went wrong! Some of the children were giving Mrs Stewart her job back but other children thought they would make a good boss.

Basketball

We are working hard to be aware of the space around us to be able to pass the ball to our partner. We are still working on our dribbling skills, as it is not easy to move around the hall without bumping into someone and bouncing the ball at the same time!

Maths

The children have started a new topic in maths this week with Mrs Lockhart. They have been learning to tell the time with a key focus on o’clock.

Yoga

We are continuing to work on Yoga in the classroom to help us focus on our work. There are many different Yoga poses for us all still to learn.

Writing

We are doing two writing slots a week now! A recap of the learning they previously did with Mrs Lockhart and our new genre. I am so impressed at how much the children challenge themselves and so many are trying to work independently to develop their writing skills. Please ask your child to share what their writing was about. We do writing on a Monday afternoon and Thursday morning.

Sharing the Learning

We have been very busy recording our learning to share with you next week. We hope you enjoy watching!

Primary 2

What a very busy start to the new term! We have welcomed three new pupils into Primary 2 so it has been a very exciting week!

Writing

We have moved on to our next genre in writing which is narrative. The children have worked very hard to create their story about ‘The Lost Puppy’. We are trying to remember a capital letter, finger space and full stop in all of our sentences.

PE

We are now doing basketball for PE. This week we have worked on dribbling, chest passes and have started trying to shoot into the basket, which is a challenge! The children have really enjoyed basketball and cannot wait to play a proper game.

Topic

We are doing a mini topic on Scotland. We have discussed this week what we already know about Scotland and what we would like to learn about. We also sang ‘Heid, Shooders, Knees an Taes’ as we were looking at Scots language. They found Scottish slang very funny as they think it sounds very ‘weird’. Just in case you hear any slang about the house!

I am extremely proud of how hard the children have worked this week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Update from Primary 2

We have had a fun filled week in Primary 2! From our Talent Show auditions to the Spaghetti Challenge!

STEM Challenge

The children were given the task, from Mrs Stewart, to create the tallest tower they could using only spaghetti and marshmallows! The children had to work as a team to see who would win! We measured each tower and the children ranked them from smallest to tallest!

Literacy

We have continued to work on our stations during ELF. We were working on our spelling sound of the week, tricky words, sentence structure, comprehension and reading! (Yes, we are very busy!) The children have worked hard in their final week of ELF.

Topic

The boat test!!! We are happy to report that all boats were able to float for the 10-second challenge. The children identified some things that they would like to change so we might revisit this challenge next term.

We also created some very colourful Turtles in relation to our topic. The children are very proud of their work!

I hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

Primary 2 W/C 29/11/21

Topic

Our ‘Under the Sea’ topic is ending, so this week the children had to make boats from a range of materials. Next week we will test them in water to see if they float or sink!

Advent

We have started our advent in class. Each child will have a turn to unwrap a book and that will be our story for the day. Yesterday, in ‘Careful, Santa!’, Santa lost all the gifts and his little mouse helper! Thankfully, he found them and was still on time to deliver the presents. A few of us were a bit worried he would not make it!

We also have Santa’s beard to count down the number of sleeps until Christmas. (This is something the children started).

Novel

Our class novel is ‘The Christmasaurus’ which we have just started. It is a fun story and a little bit silly! We will have some fun activities linked to our novel when we have read a little bit more.

Deans Decision Makers

Our Deans Decision Makers have been very busy planning lots of different activities for us throughout December, so ask your child what we have done in class each day as part of our whole school Christmas activities. On the 1st December, we had to think of things that make us happy and put them in our ‘happy box’.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

Primary 2 W/C 22/11/21

We have had another busy week in Primary 2!

Numeracy

We are still working hard on subtraction. The children are using different strategies to support their learning and are trying so hard.

Literacy

In writing this week, the children did a piece of persuasive work. They had to provide reasons why their choice of pet was the best. The children came up with great arguments.

Music

The Nativity songs have started! (I am sure you have heard them all at home!) The children are enjoying singing ‘Down in the Stable’. We look forward to performing the Nativity in December.
