Primary 3 Toy Sale

Dear Parents/Carers

Primary 3 are having a sale of toys, jigsaws, games and books to raise money for plants to put in the planters at the shops in Deans. The sale will be this Friday, the 10th of June from11:15am -11:45am in the Primary 3 classroom.

You are very welcome to come to school from 11:15 and join your child at the sale. This then gives you the opportunity to attend the coffee morning at 11:45 in the hall to meet The Support Squad (Parent Council).

Much appreciated

Art

The children have enjoyed some Easter crafts this week. We found it challenging to measure the paper to make sure the hats would fit on our heads!

Writing

We have been working hard on descriptive writing over the last few weeks. The children have described a friend in the class, objects in the class and their own bedroom. It has been lovely to see how much the children have progressed in their writing!

Maths

This week the children were learning about quarter past the hour with Mrs Lockhart. They were also painting pictures of the different seasons.

P2 will be moving to Twitter after the break. I will post the link so you can follow us!

Have a lovely Easter break!

Outdoor Learning

Deans Primary are trying to create a suitable and exciting outdoor learning space within the school grounds. Unfortunately, we are being hampered by vandals who destroy our newly planted trees, take apart out new Willow shelter and continually damage our bug hotel and newly erected structure that will be part of our area of biodiversity. On the last occasion some of the nursery items were also destroyed. The children and staff of the school would like to ask the community to support our endeavours.

PE

We made the most of the beautiful weather this week and went outside for PE. The children worked on their balancing, climbing and strength.

Outdoor Learning

The children had Outdoor Learning with Mrs Dobbie on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Dobbie set the children a challenge of getting from one side of the playground to the other, only one person was allowed their feet on the ground.

The children decided to use the crates to move across the playground. They worked amazingly as a team!

Drama

What a dramatic morning we had in Dean’s Hospital. We had accidents from falling off a roof, falling out a tree and breaking arms and legs! Someone also had trouble breathing. Luckily, we had amazing Doctors on standby to make everyone better!

IDL

The children enjoyed the challenge this week of trying to put a skeleton back together! They then completed an art lesson with Mrs Morrison about how to draw a skeleton and looking at all the different bones.

PE

Mrs Wallace came to visit our PE lesson this week and was very impressed with how the children participated in a game, how they could use a chest pass and a bounce pass and how many children successfully scored into the basket.

Literacy

The children have worked very hard this week on their end of term check-ups. We have also been working hard to answer comprehension questions about our reading book by answering in a sentence and not forgetting our core-writing targets!

I am very proud of how hard the children have worked this week! Enjoy the sunshine and have a lovely weekend! 🙂

PE

The children are still working hard to improve their basketball skills. We are working on dribbling, passing and getting into a space to receive the ball during games. We also had a student helper in this week and the children loved trying to beat him!

IDL

To finish our organs part of IDL, the children worked in pairs to complete their lung model. Each child who had not completed one worked with a child who has to share learning and knowledge. We will be moving on to the skeleton next week.

Writing

We have moved onto descriptive writing this week. The children had to listen to a description of a well-known character and draw that character! This helped the children to understand why details are so important. They then had to pick someone in the class to describe and then, as a class, we guessed each one!

Have a great weekend!

Outdoor Learning

Once again Deans Primary have received a donation of saplings from the Woodland Trust. The children are not only hoping this will enhance the look of the school grounds but begin to support a Net Zero Community and improve the environment.

The children would like to ask all children, staff, parents, carers and members of the community to help us look after the saplings so they get the opportunity to grow into large, strong trees. Since they are newly planted and have not yet taken root we would appreciate it if you could stay away from the trees. If you see or hear of any issues with the trees can you please get in touch with Mrs Dobbie.

Hello, we say it every week but what a busy week!!!

Our Reward

The children filled their marble jar and they decided that they wanted their reward to be a trip to the park. It was a lovely bright morning and the children had lots of fun with Mrs Lockhart and Miss Webster.

IDL

Our IDL stations are new to us as it is not something we have done before. The children have been very engaged in their learning and excited to be part of the different activities in the classroom.

The science experiment is allowing the children to experience first-hand how our digestion works. It gets a little messy but the children loved it! We have also been learning some very tricky words linked to our body, how our lungs work and making a model of our lungs.

This is a weekly rotation so not all children have visited each station yet.

Numeracy

We are working hard on division and trying to understand the concept. We have worked hard as a group to share our knowledge with each other and use different strategies to help us solve different equations.

The children took some of the pictures.

Have a lovely weekend!

IDL

We have been learning about the function of our organs and where about in the body they are. We have started stations for this. Some children have made lungs whilst others have been learning about digestion through an experiment.

Yoga

We read a story and then had to do different animal poses from the book! The children really enjoyed the different animal poses.

Writing

For one of our writing slots this week, the children had to write about why Yoga is good for your body. The children are working so hard in their writing and they are all making progress!

We danced our way into the weekend! Happy Friday!!

Maths

The children have continued to work on time with Mrs Lockhart. They are working hard to identify o’clock and half past on a clock.

IDL

We have started our new IDL Topic of ‘The Body’. We have a hospital set up in the classroom and the children have enjoyed fixing broken bones and waiting to see the doctor in the waiting room!

Health and Wellbeing

We have been looking at differences and similarities we have with different people in class. We understand that it is good to be different.
